Lake Roosevelt NRA/Kettle Falls
Overview
Located along the upper reaches of the Columbia River, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area at Kettle Falls offers a serene escape into Washington’s rugged interior. Managed by the National Park Service, this campground provides a quiet, forested environment where the sound of wind through the pines replaces the noise of the city. It serves as a primary hub for those looking to explore the expansive waters of the 150-mile-long reservoir while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest wilderness.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the northeast corner of Washington, the park is conveniently located just outside the town of Kettle Falls. The landscape is defined by steep forested hillsides and the vast blue waters of Lake Roosevelt. The campground sits on a plateau above the water, offering a mix of shaded and sunny spots. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine trees, creating a natural buffer from the outside world while remaining close enough to local services for supplies.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a rustic, dry-camping destination that prioritizes the outdoor experience over modern luxuries. While there are no utility hookups, the park provides well-maintained facilities for self-contained travelers. Key features include:
- Paved parking pads designed to accommodate a variety of RV sizes.
- Individual sites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables.
- Access to flush toilets and seasonal potable water.
- A central dump station located within the recreation area.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water-based recreation is the main draw here. The nearby Kettle Falls Marina offers boat launches and rentals for those eager to fish for walleye, sturgeon, or trout. History buffs will appreciate the proximity to the St. Paul’s Mission and the Kettle Falls Historical Center, which detail the area's significance to indigenous tribes. For land-based adventure, the Sherman Pass Scenic Byway is a short drive away, providing access to high-elevation hiking trails and breathtaking mountain vistas.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prefer a rustic, nature-first experience over a resort-style stay. It is a haven for anglers and boaters who want easy access to the reservoir's diverse fishing grounds. Families looking for a peaceful retreat without the distractions of commercial entertainment will find the setting perfect for reconnecting. If you enjoy falling asleep to the scent of pine needles and waking up near the water, this is your destination.

Very nice campground. Must make reservations on line, no first come first serve.

It's a nice big campground with many spots on the shore of Lake Roosevelt / Columbia River. There aren't much in the way of amenities here, but the town of Kettle Falls is close. The spots at rivers edge are high bank & not great beaches or playing, but there is a place a little south of the CG that looks like a nice beach. Beware of the pull through spots - they are shorter than they look; if you have a trailer, consider a back in spot.

Ok, fairly basic and not a lot of space or privacy. The bathrooms are nice for a campground and the camp host was helpful and friendly. Your enjoyment of it will all depend on what is most important to you in a campground.

Beautiful, clean, and quiet campgrounds. Bathrooms, dumpsters, and filling/dump stations all clean and well maintained. Would stay again without a doubt

Really great place to stay! We were there in the off season, so the water was shut off in the park. They have put toilets to use though! The one in our camp ground loop was VERY full and quite stinky. But other than that it was an amazing stay! Great views of the river, tons of wildlife, and so many eagles! Definitely will be coming back!

It is a good place to stay, I will plant more trees on it but it is well kept and you have all you need close by. We will go back, we had a great time

I visited this campground at the end of the season and had a great time. When I made reservations at recreation.gov I was informed as to what would and wouldn't be available at the campground. The vault toilet was pretty clean and the campsite was tidy. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains from some of the campsites.
