Lake Sacajawea - COE/Charbonneau Park

Overview

Charbonneau Park sits on the shores of Lake Sacajawea, a reservoir created by the Ice Harbor Lock and Dam on the Snake River. This Army Corps of Engineers destination offers a lush, park-like setting with plenty of mature shade trees providing relief from the Eastern Washington sun. It is a popular spot for those seeking a mix of water-based recreation and well-maintained camping facilities in a peaceful environment.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside Burbank, Washington, the park is situated within the Ice Harbor Lock and Dam project area. The landscape features rolling desert hills and expansive water views, which contrast beautifully with the manicured, grassy campsites. Its proximity to the Tri-Cities makes it an accessible escape that feels remote while remaining close to the Snake River corridor's unique geographical features.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of amenities tailored for RVers, including 30 and 50-amp electric hookups at many sites. While full sewer connections are not available at individual pads, a convenient dump station and fresh water are located on-site. Visitors can enjoy several features:

  • A designated swim beach and swimming area.
  • A multi-lane boat launch for river access.
  • Clean restrooms and hot shower facilities.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activity, from fishing for salmon and steelhead to boating across the calm waters of Lake Sacajawea. Nearby, the Tri-Cities area offers a wealth of award-winning wineries and golf courses for those looking to explore the local culture. Educational tours of the Ice Harbor Dam provide fascinating insight into the region's hydroelectric power and fish passage systems.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for families and water sports enthusiasts who appreciate a traditional camping experience with reliable electrical comforts. It caters well to retirees looking for a quiet, scenic stay and boaters who want immediate access to the river. If you prefer shaded, spacious campsites and a natural atmosphere over a high-traffic commercial resort, Charbonneau Park is a perfect choice.

We stayed here in mid September over an extended weekend on an intentional getaway. It is 25 minutes from a large town and in the midst of Washington's apple county. The park sits on the eastern shore of Lake Sacajawea on the Snake River and is operated by the Corps of Engineers. Many activities available: Fishing, boating, water skiing, swiming, hicking etc... Small ships, barges and a sternwheeler, pass through the lake on occasion. Amenities: * All sites have electricity up to 50 amps. * Sewer and water (not all sites) * All sites have fire pits and aluminum picnic. tables. * 1 Central bath house w/ showers. * Small marina and boat ramp. * Day use area with kids play and swimming area. * Dump station. * Open grassy areas. Posatives: + Very clean and well maintained. + Sites are nicely spaced apart. + Check-in process is simple and easy. + All sites have electricity up to 50 amps. + Quiet, relaxing, family atmosphere. + Pleanty of trees for shade. Negatives: - Bugs! Come prepared. - No direct access from the RV park to the marina and day use area. Long walk or quick drive around. - Gate closes at 10:00pm. (can be difficult if emergencies arise) Other: & Alcohol is not permitted in the park. & No Wi-Fi Conclusion: Excellent destination stay.

Beautiful park with plenty of parking. There are multiple small beaches with sand. Lots of picnic tables too. The park ranger was very kind. I recommend coming here during sunset! :)

Absolutely one of the loveliest parks/campgrounds we’ve ever stayed in! It started with a delightful and informative host, our site was a back in with full hooks for an extremely reasonable price. The site was level and clean, under a lovely shade tree. The bath house was older but very clean. This campground sits by a lake that is beautiful, with gorgeous sunsets…the only negative that I have was no hooks or benches in the shower and low water pressure…but it was still a 5 star experience!

We really enjoyed this campground. Most sites are electric only however about 7 of them have full hookups and those are located near the bathroom. I think this campground would benefit from an additional bathroom closer to the entrance. There is a very small beach but it is a bit to walk to else you can drive to the main boat launch area and there are two beaches and shelters there.

We went for 2 days. It was a very pretty park. Very quiet. Well maintained. The bathrooms were super clean. We will for sure stay there again. It also has a dump site on your way out.
