Lake Texoma - COE/Lakeside

Overview

Lakeside Campground at Lake Texoma offers a tranquil escape for those seeking the natural beauty of the Oklahoma shoreline. As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility, it provides a well-maintained environment where the focus remains on the great outdoors. Travelers can enjoy expansive views of the water and easy access to one of the largest reservoirs in the United States. It is a preferred destination for those who appreciate spacious campsites and a peaceful atmosphere away from heavy highway noise.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Mead, Oklahoma, the park is nestled along the eastern banks of Lake Texoma. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hills and dense woodlands, providing a mix of sun and shade throughout the grounds. Its position on the lake makes it a prime spot for watching sunsets over the water. The park's proximity to the Texas-Oklahoma border makes it a convenient stop for travelers moving through the Red River Valley region.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a variety of sites, including many with electric and water hookups suitable for modern RVs. Campers have access to essential facilities such as hot showers, flush toilets, and a convenient on-site dump station. For those bringing watercraft, the park offers a dedicated boat ramp and a designated swimming beach area. Large concrete pads at many sites help accommodate bigger rigs, while picnic tables and fire rings encourage outdoor living at every site.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is a major draw here, as Lake Texoma is world-renowned for its striped bass fishing. Beyond the water, visitors can explore the nearby city of Durant, which is home to the Choctaw Casino & Resort for entertainment and dining. Nature enthusiasts often visit the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge located across the border in Texas. Local marinas are just a short drive away, offering boat rentals and supplies for a full day of exploration on the lake.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for families and retirees who prefer a quiet, natural setting over a commercial resort. It is perfect for anglers and boaters who want direct access to the water without the hustle of more crowded marinas. RVers looking for a budget-friendly stay with high-quality maintenance will find the COE standards very appealing. If you value stunning lake views and a slower pace of life, Lakeside is a top-tier choice for your next Oklahoma adventure.

Only problem I had was worrying everytime I walked my dog. Because some people don't put their dogs on a Leash!! How rude! Otherwise it was a good place to camp. Busy tho

This is a scenic 👀 large, well maintained COE Park. 🙌🏻One of the best I have visited in the last two months 🤩 Four large loops built on two peninsulas, but only two bathrooms with two showers each. However once again, my biggest complaint is the restroom situation🚻 Just not enough facilities, in enough locations for the amount of people. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Also of note is the unusual presence of park rangers🚨. Sometimes three trucks roaming around the campground at the same time. At times I would see a ranger drive through my loop once every hour! Granted this probably had something to do with the Labor Day holiday weekend because I never saw anyone on Tuesday or Wednesday 🫢

NO CHANCE TO SLEEP! Pro: The spot we had was newly built and offered a covered metal table, a fire pit, a grill, a side table, an electric outlet (though you couldn’t charge your phone, the socket was locked), and a water connection. We were right by the water with a really beautiful view… Con: …if it weren’t for the incredibly loud freight trains that thundered through the area at midnight and 1 a.m. like approaching war fleets, unbelievably loud. You’d bolt upright in your tent!! And then there were the fishermen who, at night, cruised by in their hover boats with festival-style lighting, showing no regard for the camping tents, doing donuts like there was no tomorrow, they’d shine their lights right in! Unbelievable! One fisherman made his rounds every night directly in front of our tent, so close you’d think he was about to drive straight onto the shore and into the tent. I’ve never experienced anything like it… NO CHANCE OF SLEEP! We barely got a wink of sleep because fishing continued until 2 a.m., and the first fishermen would pass by the campsites again at 5 a.m. with their motorboats… never again!!!

DO NOT USE the furthest west boat ramp! If water is 3 feet low, large pile of rocks at end of west side boat ramp. East side ramp is good! Come on COE, at least block it off or clean it out.

We had an amazing day! We rented the gizmo for our wedding. The gate lady was incredibly kind and helped our friends and family find us. The dogs had a fantastic day alongside us.

Lots of fun swimming and fishing. Great for families with young kids! The property is kept clean and maintained, and the people are nice. They may need to upgrade their power hookups for the campers in the near future. I, as well as a few others, had occasional issues with blown breakers.

I've only stayed here a few times in loop A. Sites are good for the price with plenty of trees. I wish all of the picnic tables had a cover but very few do. The latest trip, Memorial weekend 2023, the bathrooms were horribly dirty and unattended. That wasn't normal on previous trips. Hopefully they remedy this and it's not an ongoing problem.
