Lakeside Camping Area
Overview
Lakeside Camping Area offers a classic Vermont experience right on the shores of Island Pond. Nestled in the scenic Northeast Kingdom, this family-owned park provides a balance between rustic charm and modern convenience. It is known for its private sandy beach and crystal-clear water, making it a staple for summer vacations. The park emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere where guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests while maintaining access to essential services and well-maintained grounds.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated in the town of Brighton, specifically in the village of Island Pond, a historic railway town known for its rugged beauty. The surrounding area is characterized by dense forests and the rolling hills of northern Vermont. Campers are just a short walk or drive from the village center, allowing for easy access to local diners and unique shops. The immediate environment is dominated by the lake, providing a serene waterfront setting that feels secluded yet remains easily accessible from major regional routes.
Amenities & Park Features
RVers will find well-maintained sites that include full hookup options with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electricity. For those who need to stay connected, the park offers cable TV and Wi-Fi access at most sites. On-site facilities include a laundry room, clean bathhouses, and a camp store for supplies. Recreational features are a major draw, including a private swimming beach, a playground for children, and boat rentals. Guests can rent kayaks or canoes to explore the famous island that gives the pond its name.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park, visitors can explore the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, which offers exceptional birdwatching and hiking opportunities. Fishing is a popular pastime here, with the lake being home to trout and landlocked salmon. For a different perspective of the landscape, the nearby Brighton State Park provides additional trails and nature programs. During the autumn months, the area serves as a prime location for leaf-peeping, as the maples transform the landscape into a vibrant display of color.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for families and retirees looking for a traditional lakeside retreat away from the noise of larger commercial resorts. It suits travelers who enjoy water-based recreation and those looking to explore the remote beauty of the Northeast Kingdom. Because it offers spacious sites and convenient access, it is also an excellent choice for big-rig owners who want a scenic basecamp. If you value quiet evenings by a campfire and days spent on the water, this park is a perfect fit for your travel style.

We LOVE this campground!!!! Always peaceful, and cozy experience. Maurice runs a well kept campground with nice, clean bathrooms and individual coin operated shower rooms that lock, so you have the whole thing to yourself. If you're bored in NEK, It's your own darn fault! Check it out!

We stayed in our camper. Lakeside camping is both peaceful and exciting. The atmosphere is very family friendly. There was always something to do between swimming, boating, using the play ground or exploring the area. The views were amazing and the staff was very helpful and the camp store was fully stocked with other shopping opportunities within 5-20 minute drive. We booked 2 trips next year.

Very nice campground the owner Maurice and his staff are very accommodating . It’s also nice to have a convenient store on the premises as well as a filling station for propane . If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway with your RV,camper,or tent look no further give them a call.

Probably one of sweetest campgrounds with a waterview/beach site you'll find in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Seasonal campers are very friendly to transient camper like me. If you camp there and on the beach during late May or early June be prepared for weather changes, including strong winds.
