Land O' Lakes/Clint Converse

Overview

Land O' Lakes/Clint Converse is a serene state forest campground located within the heart of the Northwoods. Situated on the quiet shores of Washburn Lake, this destination offers a primitive camping experience that emphasizes a connection with nature. Managed by the Minnesota DNR, the park provides a rugged alternative to commercial resorts, allowing RVers to enjoy the dense canopy and glacial landscapes of the Land O' Lakes State Forest in its most natural state.

Location & Surroundings

Positioned just a short drive north of Outing, MN, the campground is surrounded by rolling hills and thick forests of pine and hardwood. The most notable feature of the location is its proximity to the Washburn Lake Solitude Area, a protected zone dedicated to non-motorized recreation. This ensures that the environment remains peaceful, with the only sounds often being the rustle of leaves or the call of a loon across the crystal-clear water of the nearby lakes.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic facility designed for travelers who enjoy self-sufficient camping. Instead of modern utility hookups, guests will find vault toilets and a hand pump for potable water. Each individual campsite is outfitted with a heavy-duty fire ring and a sturdy picnic table. For those looking to get on the water, the park features a well-maintained boat ramp that provides direct access for fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks to explore the scenic shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with an extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails winding through the surrounding state forest. Anglers frequent the area to test their luck catching walleye, bass, and panfish in the local waters. For those interested in wildlife, the area is a prime spot for bird watching and catching glimpses of white-tailed deer. The nearby town of Outing offers a touch of local charm with small-town eateries and essential supplies for campers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for boondockers and self-contained RVers who prefer a quiet, wooded setting over the amenities of a luxury resort. It is perfect for those who travel with smaller rigs or vans and enjoy a traditional camping vibe. If your goal is to disconnect from the digital world and spend your evenings stargazing by a campfire, this Northwoods retreat offers the solitude and simplicity you are looking for.

We enjoy this campground, it’s quiet and very peaceful, no amenities but that’s ok. We stayed there for 3 nights and this time was a difficult stay, we had a party next To us with a dog, the couple would leave late morning/ early angternoon and not come home until after 11:00pm. The dog was left in the camper for appx 12 hours and would wine and cry… the party would get home, put the dog outside tied up all night and the poor thing would continue wine and cry but outside all night, this poor dog didn’t deserve the treatment it’s getting and it broke my heart. I couldn’t sleep hearing this dog. All it wants is love. They need to have the dog taken away from them.

No dumpster, so bags of trash can be found in pit toilets and woods behind campsites. Very disappointing. Otherwise, it is quiet during the week with nice flat spots and massive red and white pines. Caught pike, bluegill and largemouth bass from the bank despite being shallow. Can hear cars on the road but hardly any traffic at night during the week. Fire rings have high walls so hard to see the fire unless you're above it

It's very rustic, but this is a nice peaceful campground with a boat launch on Lake Washburn. It has picnic areas and vault toilets. Camping area is quite roomy and has unique upper and lower camping areas. There's a self-service payment drop box. Hiking/skiing trails are nearby.

Rustic campground with only satellite toilets and a hand pump for water, no electric hook ups. There is a dock on the lower part of the park for fishing and a boat launch. The upper part of the park has some great level campsites. It's close to a county road or highway that gets a decent amount of traffic so you will hear cars going by a lot but we love it here.

Quiet. Swimming area is great. One can wade out 25 yards while casting. Lots of clean restrooms. Close to Remer and Outing. Trails.

Nice and quiet during the week (wed-fri), probably only 3 other campers in the whole complex. Biggest disappointment was the prohibited use of ATV's in the campground even though we were close to the ATV trails, ATV riding was the main focus of the trip. ATV use is a big business in the area, making the inability to use them to/from campground puzzling. We may not be back because of this despite our good experience otherwise. Campsites vary in size but several were big enough for 2 vehicles/trailers and 2 tents. Vault toilets were ok, pumpable water was rusty but thats expected. There were plenty of deadfall around to collect firewood, although success may vary depending on specific site location.
