LBL National Recreation Area/Wranglers Campground
Overview
Wranglers Campground is a specialized destination within the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Known primarily as a premier equestrian facility, it offers a blend of rugged outdoor beauty and developed conveniences. Set amidst the rolling hills of western Kentucky, this site provides access to an extensive network of trails, making it a hub for horse enthusiasts and nature lovers looking for a deeper connection with the wilderness.
Location & Surroundings
The campground is situated in Golden Pond, KY, positioned perfectly between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense hardwood forests and gently undulating terrain. Because it is nestled within a national recreation area, visitors are surrounded by protected lands, offering a quiet escape from highway noise and urban sprawl while maintaining easy access to the main interior roads of the peninsula.
Amenities & Park Features
Designed to accommodate diverse camping styles, the park features over 200 campsites ranging from primitive spots to those with full hookups including sewer. The park offers several specialized facilities:
- Large sites specifically designed for big-rig horse trailers and large RVs.
- Dedicated horse wash racks and hitching posts located throughout the grounds.
- Modern shower houses and a seasonal activity center for guest gatherings.
A well-stocked outpost ensures that campers have access to firewood, ice, and basic necessities without leaving the recreation area.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the 100 miles of horse trails, there is much to explore in the immediate vicinity. Just a short drive away, the Elk and Bison Prairie offers a chance to view native wildlife in their natural habitat. History buffs can visit the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm to see live demonstrations of pioneer life. Water enthusiasts can enjoy easy access to boat ramps for fishing and paddling on the two neighboring lakes.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for equestrian travelers who want to camp with their horses and access world-class riding trails right from their campsite. It also appeals to RVers who enjoy a rustic, forest-heavy atmosphere without sacrificing essential utilities. If you prefer a quiet, nature-focused stay where wildlife viewing and trail riding take center stage over resort-style amenities, this Kentucky gem is an excellent fit for your travel style.

I take my granddaughters a time or two a year. Everyone is always friendly and professional. Their horses are much better than most trail ride groups

Always a FUN-FILLED experience at Wrangler's, we come back over & over from FL! The Campground is very inviting, has everything you need in the little Country Store if you happen to "forget" something, and the staff is top notch! Evenings by your firepit looking at the stars and creating memories are irreplaceable! Both size cabins are great; 4-person is cozy & an 8-person for the ones who need a little more room but bring your linens & pillows (they're primitive); the camper lots are great too depending on your need you can pick electric, water, sewer. A must visit place!

Amazing experience and highly recommend! Did the 90min ride and Whitney was a wonderful guide! Will absolutely be back. Everyone was so friendly and the horses we excellent, Cooper was so gentle and Jake was so entertaining!

I would recommend their trail guide horse riding for anyone that has never had the opportunity to ride a horse, kids, and families, or even a couple on a date. It was a slow peaceful ride through the woods. The horses were well trained and friendly. They were even pretty patient forgiving of the inexperienced riders in our group. (Both staff and horses.)

This is the best campgrounds we have been to so far. The site are so big and it's such a clean campground. Only downside is very little to no Cell phone reception and no internet at all.
