Lincoln/Silver Campground

Overview

Lincoln/Silver Campground offers a refreshing mountain escape within the vast Lincoln National Forest. Situated at a soaring elevation of approximately 9,000 feet, this facility provides a true alpine experience just minutes from the charming village of Cloudcroft. The campground is divided into two distinct loops, Lincoln and Silver, both of which provide a tranquil forest setting perfect for RVers looking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the cool mountain breezes that define the Sacramento Mountains.

Location & Surroundings

The surroundings are dominated by a lush canopy of ponderosa pine, aspen, and Douglas fir, creating a cool microclimate even during the peak of the New Mexico summer. Located conveniently off Highway 82, the park serves as a primary gateway to high-altitude exploration. Visitors often enjoy the crisp air and the frequent sight of local wildlife, including elk and mule deer, making it a premier destination for those seeking a high-altitude retreat away from the desert heat below.

Amenities & Park Features

As a National Forest site, the amenities focus on providing a rustic, authentic camping experience. The facility features paved parking spurs that accommodate a variety of RV lengths, though travelers should note that hookups are not available. Each individual site is equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings under the stars. Other essential features include:

  • Centrally located potable water stations
  • Clean and well-maintained vault toilets
  • Easy access to regional trailheads

These features ensure that basic comforts are met while maintaining the pristine, undeveloped feel of the forest environment.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Hikers can easily access the Osha Trail, which offers stunning overlooks of the surrounding peaks and the historic Mexican Canyon Trestle. For a unique day trip, the surreal white gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park are located about an hour's drive away. Additionally, the boutique shops and local breweries in Cloudcroft provide a charming cultural experience just two miles from the campground gates.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RVers who prioritize a quiet, natural atmosphere over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for families wanting to introduce children to the wonders of the forest and hikers looking for a convenient basecamp near popular trailheads. Because of its significantly lower temperatures, it is a favorite summer destination for regional travelers looking to flee the heat found in the lower elevations of the Southwest.

This is the place to go if visiting the area in a big rig. Basically a parking lot but close to all the local attractions. This is also the place to dump your tanks and get water if staying in o e of the nearby campgrounds. Camp host very friendly and helpful.

We visited the campground near the end of the season. There were lots of campsites available. Beautiful night skies, moderate hiking trails, and pit toilets throughout. Please bring hand soaps/hand sanitizer. There are no sinks available for handwashing or dishwashing. The only issue we had was that they closed their showers early. There is water near the entrance for drinking and cleaning up.

Every year I come out here with family and friends. Being doing this for the past 6 years. I always have a great time and recommend it to other people. The hosts are great and the facility is always well kept. The host does a great job of checking on you too. Which I admire a lot when, I have my son with me. Wonderful secret spot.

This was an awesome little camping spot. Nice place to get away from the hot weather. Nice little trails near by as well. The host was very nice and welcoming. Bathrooms were kept nice and clean. Would definitely return again. Visited 614-6/17

The hosts that greet u at the front are very very rude. They have no patience and right away threaten to ban u, the old lady was banging on my window bc I put the sticker on the wrong side…on top of that both her and her husband have immense attitude towards thier customers, because of them going in and out of the camp was such a struggle. Wouldn’t recommend.

I save my five star reviews for those places that over-deliver and this is one of them. We didn't camp here as the campground is currently closed but hiked and enjoyed a wonderful picnic.

I stayed at the overflow. Camp host Mark was very friendly and helpful. The campground and facilities are very clean. When you pay for a shower or the RV dump, the host unlocks them for you.

This is a great place to stay. They have firepits on every site and regulated generator hours from 8 -10, 12-2, and 5-7. Camp host makes sure the rules are followed which makes it nice when you want to have quiet time.

We are staying in Silver Overflow camping area for the second time this summer. It was very crowded over Labor Day but overall our fellow campers were nice. The overflow area is paved, has water, pay showers, trash dumpsters and a pay dump station nearby. The hosts, Mark (we’ve known for several years) and Mike, here in the overflow area couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. Monica, the host in Silver campground loop, is also very friendly. We’ve been coming to Silver overflow area for 4-5 years now as it is our favorite summer spot in the national forest only a few miles from Cloudcroft. We try to be considerate of our fellow campers, using our small generator 30 minutes in the morning to make coffee, then again for a short time in the evening. You are allowed to run your generator from 6 am until 10 pm but if you need power all day long you might want to find an RV park with hookups. One of the main attractions for us is the peace and quiet. Overall we’d recommend Silver Overflow area. We stay here in a 30’ travel trailer.
