Little Pee Dee
Overview
Little Pee Dee State Park offers a serene getaway into the natural beauty of South Carolina's Coastal Plain. Situated in the Sandhills region, this park is known for its quiet atmosphere and the striking presence of scenic cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. Unlike bustling commercial campgrounds, this state park focuses on preserving the tranquil environment surrounding the river and lake, making it a perfect spot for travelers who want to reconnect with nature while staying in their RV in a peaceful, wooded setting.
Location & Surroundings
The park is located just outside of Dillon, SC, near the North Carolina border. Its most prominent feature is the Little Pee Dee River, which winds through a swampy ecosystem rich with local wildlife. The park also encompasses the 54-acre Lake Norton, providing a focal point for water-based recreation. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by a mix of pine forests and wetlands, offering a distinct sense of seclusion despite being easily accessible from major travel corridors like I-95.
Amenities & Park Features
RV travelers will find 32 campsites that cater to various rig sizes. The sites are equipped with water and electrical hookups, ensuring a comfortable stay in a rustic setting. On-site facilities include a dump station, a picnic area with several shelters, and a playground for families. For those who enjoy the water, the park features a fishing pier and boat ramp, providing easy access to the calm waters of the lake for an afternoon of paddling or casting a line for local fish.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Beaver Pond Nature Trail, a gentle path that showcases the diverse local flora and fauna. Fishing is a primary draw here, with opportunities to catch bream, bass, and catfish. Just a short drive away is the famous South of the Border roadside attraction, offering a stark contrast with its kitschy shops and eateries. Additionally, the nearby town of Dillon provides essential services and a glimpse into local Pee Dee region history and culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature photographers and birdwatchers who appreciate the haunting beauty of blackwater rivers and swamp landscapes. It is best suited for RVers who prefer a rustic and quiet retreat over high-energy resort amenities. If you are looking for a peaceful stopover where the primary soundtrack is the wind through the trees and the call of local birds, Little Pee Dee State Park is an excellent choice for your South Carolina travel itinerary.

All of the camp hosts through the years have been amazing!!! The trails and family engagement is awesome. We have two generations attending and can't wait for more.

Stopped here to get my Ultimate Ousider stamp, its on the smaller side of the state parks. Signs said there was a swimming area but at the beach-y part one said swimming area and the next about 8 feet away said no swimming. Honestly I dont know who would want to swim here, but the signs were confusing. There is a boat ramp also.

It is a really nice and well maintained park! Definitely one of the best in SC. It has great campsite that vary in size but the ones by the water are VERY spacious and if your tent camping the sites are amazing. And the staff are very nice and helpful! I can say enough great things about this park! It is definitely one my yearly rotation of parks to visit and stay at!
