Lolo/Cabin City
Overview
Lolo/Cabin City Campground offers a quintessential Montana forest experience that appeals to those seeking a deep connection with nature. Tucked away in the scenic St. Regis River valley, this Lolo National Forest gem provides a serene environment for travelers looking to disconnect from the digital world. Unlike modern commercial parks, this location emphasizes the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, surrounded by towering evergreens and the crisp mountain air. It serves as an authentic and accessible gateway for those exploring the rugged landscapes of Western Montana.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just off Interstate 90 near De Borgia, MT, the park manages to feel remarkably secluded despite its proximity to the highway. The campground is nestled within a dense canopy of mature cedar and fir trees, providing excellent shade and a sense of privacy between sites. The St. Regis River flows nearby, offering a tranquil backdrop for evening strolls. Its location near the Idaho-Montana border makes it an ideal transition point for cross-country travelers navigating the Northern Rockies.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional forest service site, the park features reliable vault toilets and seasonal potable water sourced from hand pumps. Each individual campsite is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a steel fire ring for evening campfires. While there are no electricity or sewer hookups available, many of the parking spurs are paved, which helps with leveling your rig. Travelers should arrive prepared for a dry camping experience while enjoying the well-maintained, rustic atmosphere that only a national forest can provide.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many visitors is the Route of the Hiawatha, a world-famous rail-to-trail mountain biking path located just a short drive away. Anglers often frequent the St. Regis River for its excellent trout fishing and wading opportunities during the summer months. For those interested in alpine scenery, Lookout Pass is nearby, offering recreation year-round. The surrounding forest service roads also offer miles of exploration for hikers and photography enthusiasts hoping to spot local wildlife in their natural habitat.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideally suited for nature-focused RVers who prioritize natural scenery and solitude over high-end resort amenities. It is a perfect choice for mountain bikers visiting the region or travelers seeking a quiet rustic stopover during a long road trip through the mountains. Because of the layout and specific site lengths, it is best for smaller to mid-sized rigs and adventure-seekers who enjoy the simplicity of traditional boondocking in a lush forest setting.

A typical, but nice USFS campground. There are two loops, A & B. Each loop has 12 sites. The first six sites for each loop are reservable by using recreation.gov. There are two vault toilets and two "non-threaded" spigots in each loop. Depending on the site, there is more or less vegetation between sites. Most sites are fairly level and not much in the way of overhead obstacles. We enjoyed the "nature trail." There was a guide for it when we visited in August, 2025, although it could stand to be updated as some of the details described at various stops were no longer valid.

They do offer firewood free of charge. Camp host was great - very laid back. The road is paved but the parking spots are not. The sites are fairly open and flat, yet still shaded by trees. Would work well for tent or RV camping. The area is beautiful, and the sites are not packed too tightly.

Great little campground. Nice, private, well laid out campsites. Very quiet and the pine forest smells amazing at night. The camp host does a great job at keeping the pit toilets clean. Has two community water spigots. Definitely keeping this campground in mind when we come through this area of Montana again.

Beautiful campground. Cleanest best smelling outhouses I have ever pooped in! Seriously. It was super awesome. Bugs were minimal and the free firewood every night was great. That’s a $10 value per day and did I mention the freaking bathrooms? I would camp and poop here again.

Beautiful scenery! It is far enough away from the freeway and towns that it is quiet. 15 minutes away from a gas station/grocery store. Campsites were big enough for most RVs. Maggie, the camp host, is amazing!

Far enough off I 90 to be quiet. Nice layout. Super clean vault toilets. We stayed the last night it was open for the season

We were going to stay at 50000 dollar casino but moved here. Glad we did. Bathrooms clean plenty of space and quiet nights. Only 3.50 with America the Beautiful Pass.

Great place for tenters or campers. Nice road to it and some spaces big enough for 40' motorhomes. Very quiet and peaceful. Bathrooms and potable water. Nice camp hosts.
