Lolo/Slowey
Overview
Slowey Campground, managed by the Lolo National Forest, offers a serene and authentic Montana outdoor experience just outside St. Regis. This destination is defined by its tall ponderosa pines and immediate access to the scenic Clark Fork River. Travelers seeking a rustic forest setting will find a well-maintained environment that prioritizes natural beauty over modern luxuries. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the rugged terrain of Western Montana while providing a sense of seclusion from the busier highway corridors nearby.
Location & Surroundings
Situated a few miles east of St. Regis, MT, the park is nestled in a lush river valley. The Clark Fork River flows directly adjacent to the campground, providing soothing ambient noise and stunning waterfront views. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense evergreen forests and steep mountain ridges. Because it is located near Interstate 90, it provides easy access for travelers, yet the thick tree canopy helps create a buffer, maintaining a quiet, woodland atmosphere that feels miles away from civilization.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional Forest Service site, the amenities here are basic but functional for self-contained RVers. The park features vault toilets and potable water via hand pumps. Each site is equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring for evening campfires. While there are no electricity or sewer hookups, the spacious gravel pads can accommodate mid-sized trailers and motorhomes. The layout is designed to maximize privacy, with plenty of natural vegetation separating the individual campsites from one another.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the river, where visitors enjoy fly fishing and rafting throughout the summer months. For those willing to drive a short distance, the world-famous Route of the Hiawatha offers an unforgettable mountain biking experience through historic rail tunnels. Additionally, the St. Regis Travel Center is a popular local stop for supplies and huckleberry treats. Nature enthusiasts can explore numerous hiking trails within the Lolo National Forest or take a relaxing soak at the nearby Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for dry campers and boondockers who prefer the sounds of nature over the hum of a crowded RV resort. It is perfect for travelers who enjoy a back-to-basics approach and have self-contained rigs capable of operating without hookups. It also serves as a fantastic convenient overnight stop for those trekking between Coeur d'Alene and Missoula who want a more scenic, quiet alternative to standard roadside parks or paved rest areas.

Clean campsites, clean bathrooms, good camp host. Loud train horn 😲 Price is right 👍

Sites 1-20 are in the forest area. There are several rv sites that are circular along the road so you can pull in easily and drive right out when you are ready. These sites are more roomy than the ones by the river. No hook-ups ,but water, garbage, and a few "general" bear boxes are available. A train does come by and "hoots" once in awhile. The setting is beautiful and I am enjoying tent camping here.

Campground is wonderful only downside is that the train goes though every day and night. When it goes through it has to blow its whistle because of crossings across the river. Bring earplugs and enjoy the nice campground.

Nice and quiet with pull through camp sites.

Great for the price. Kinda a decent amount of highway noise bit quick easy and cheap. When we pulled into our spot, I hit the self leveler and it was already level.

Not so hidden Gem. Easy access, right by the river. Camp ground hosts are the nicest folks ever. They keep it clean and organized. We reserved a spot for the 4th of July. I highly recommend this spot.

This is an absolutely lovely rustic campground. It offers clean pit toilets, trash receptacles, large private sites, many of which are pull through, RV water filling stations, free firewood (5 pieces per night) provided by the very friendly Hosts, and some T-Mobile service. We enjoyed sitting in our space watching the river flow by and, the anglers and the trains go by. What brings the campground down to a four is that it is nestled between I 90 and a very active train line. It takes getting used to the noise. Many of the sites in the campground are available for reservation through NPS. But there are still first come first serve sites, 26 being one of them, and it was beautiful. If you’re looking for camp stores, playgrounds, showers, or laundromats this is not the campground for you. I would stay again if passing through the area.

Nice campground, small. Being right near the river the mosquitoes were terrible! The better place is The Sanctuary in the mountains of Superior, incredible views!!

Not a planned stop but glad we did. Apple trees and chokecherry bushes all over and a short walk to the river. The train does go by on a regular schedule and could be disturbing for some when you hear it at night, but it didn't bother anyone I was with. It is a beautiful little place for being right off the road.

Nice hosts. The river was a welcome treat after a long day of riding.
