Sad Decline of What Used to Be a Family Tradition My family camped at Loon’s Haven for over 40 years, across four generations. It used to be one of the best parts of our summers — friendly people, a welcoming atmosphere, and real family values. We decided to stop by recently to see how it’s changed since the early 2000s, and wow… it’s like a completely different place. Whatever management runs it now has turned it into one of the most unfriendly and uptight campgrounds in Maine. From the moment we arrived, we were yelled at repeatedly to “slow down” — despite the fact that we were literally doing 5 mph (maybe 8 going downhill). Apparently, they have no idea what 5 mph actually looks like unless you’re getting out and pushing your car. It’s ridiculous. Instead of feeling welcome, we felt watched, judged, and harassed the entire time. The people running the place seem to have forgotten what the word “family” in “family campground” is supposed to mean. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see what’s become of a place that once held so many special memories for us. Loon’s Haven used to be full of laughter and community — now it’s full of rudeness, overbearing management, and people who act like they’d rather you not be there at all. If you’re hoping to revisit the Loon’s Haven you remember, don’t bother. That place doesn’t exist anymore.

Gorgeous sunsets, dinners on the deck. Very quiet and relaxing. The dogs enjoyed the walks! We really had a great time!!!

Love this cozy campground. This trip was our second year and we love the vibe. Loons singing. Friendly faces. Cozy glamping sites. Very Maine, very peaceful. Great place to get away.

Rented the main lodge. It was spotless. This place has everything you need except the campground store closes at 5pm right about the time you are getting back from daily activities and heading back to your site. I wish the store stayed open a little later. The lodge had 4 bedrooms, TVs in every most rooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, a huge kitchen and giant driveway. Also an onsite gas grill and fire pit. Plenty of lawn furniture to sit on and the kitchen was fully loaded. No need to bring cooking or eating utensils.

Loved this camp ground. It was our first time camping and the site was beautiful and spacious. The people were so friendly. The service way great, extremely well run for a very fair price. The location is an amazing perfect beach’s for swimming and docks for fishing. Great play ground for the littles as well.

There are no words to give enough credit to this amazing place! The cabin was perfect! It was roomy enough for my whole family. The pond was beautiful and clean. Everyone we met was so friendly, and the activities were so fun. The staff in the store are always friendly, even answering my many questions. I could on and on just go see for your self, you will not Wang yo leave! I know we didn't.

Our stay at Loon Haven was at the end of a month long trip through Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, PEI and back. Our stop here was the last before heading home. We stayed at 8 different camgrounds over the trip. The campgrounds that we stayed at in Canada for the most part had all very clean, spacious sites, spaced out so that you had privacy and were not on top of your neighbor, very clean bathrooms, (one placed cleaned their bathrooms 3 time/day), all ranged between $45 and $70.00/night. We arrived at Loon Haven around 4:30 after driving all the way from PEI. To get to our site # 6, we had to drive through many "seasonal" sites, some run down, some quite messy. Our site was one of their premium waterfront sites. It was a nice site, but was narrow and open on both sides so there really was very little privacy. I realize that we arrived late in the day but the bathrooms need to be checked more often. One thing that was unusual was the campgrounds policy to leave your trash by the road and it will be picked up by the staff. You had to have it out by 11AM I believe. A party in the site next to us was leaving with their camper when we got there and left their trash bags by the road. It never got picked up until the next day. Thankfully no animals got into the bags overnight. They have a huge dumpster by the dump station. Guests should be asked to bring their trash to the dumpster instead of leaving it by the road. Plus trash by the road look’s terrible. For the 3 nights we were there, the cost per night was around $106 average. If they are going to charge rates like that, the campground needs to be spectacular and it wasn’t. Loon Haven is surely not worth that kind of money.

Really nice campground for a summer vacation. It is located on Tricky Pond. They have at least 2 swimming beaches. You can rent kayaks or bring your own boat and rent a boat slip. There are a lot of seasonal sites but not many transient sites. We got lucky and we're able to get a site directly on the pond at the just 7 days in advance for the weekend. I will definitely visit again.

We visited family and had a great time during our stay. We participated in a boat parade out on the pond celebrating the 4th, it was a hit for sure for those who saw. Everyone was enjoying themselves and we will be back for sure, great place.
