Lum Park (Brainerd County Park)
Overview
Lum Park, a centerpiece of the Brainerd Parks and Recreation system, offers a serene camping experience right on the shores of Rice Lake. This scenic destination serves as a tranquil gateway to the Mississippi River, providing RVers with a lush, green environment that feels miles away from the city despite its convenient location. Visitors here enjoy the towering hardwoods and a classic Minnesota lakeside atmosphere that defines the Brainerd Lakes Area.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated on a peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Mississippi River backwaters. This unique position provides stunning water views and a gentle breeze throughout the summer months. The surrounding neighborhood is quiet, making it an excellent spot for those who want to avoid the noise of the highway. Because it is located within the city limits of Brainerd, campers have quick access to local grocers, fuel stations, and hardware stores.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 18 designated sites, most of which offer electric and water hookups suitable for various RV sizes. On-site facilities include:
- Clean bathhouse with hot showers and restrooms.
- Multiple picnic shelters for large gatherings and shade.
- A premier 18-hole disc golf course and large playground.
- Well-maintained boat launch and fishing pier for river access.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do just minutes from their campsite. The famous Paul Bunyan State Trail is easily accessible, offering miles of paved paths for biking and walking. For a quieter pace, the Northland Arboretum provides beautiful gardens and nature trails nearby. Anglers frequently visit to target walleye and bass in the river, while the local downtown area features unique boutique shopping and locally-owned eateries that capture the Northwoods charm.
Who This Park Is Best For
Lum Park is best suited for travelers who prefer a community park atmosphere over a large, commercial resort. It is an ideal spot for families who value active recreation like disc golf and fishing. Because the campground is smaller and more intimate, it is perfect for those seeking a quiet home base while exploring the wider Brainerd region. It offers the right balance of rustic natural beauty and essential modern comforts.

Great park at the East end of Brainerd MN. Using the campground; exceptionally clean shower was available 24 hours day with a key. Very relaxing and quiet. Yet, easily accessible to all the area has to offer. The hosts were amazing and ensure the entire park is well cared for. Free firewood as well for campfires.

Very clean, beautiful, family friendly park. I took a nature pontoon ride down the river with family that departed from this park and arrived very early. There was a very nice family celebrating a graduation party, there were many children on the beach, and many seeing in the lake. Very peaceful and very clean. I would definitely return to enjoy more of the park.

Brainerd had really upgraded Lum Park in the last few years. They extended the beach and added shade structures. They also upgraded playground equipment. There is a classic disc golf course. TONS of room to gather or have picnics at various tables and shelters. Of course, the main attraction is the beautiful lake with a fishing pier. Beautiful city park that we love.

A decent 9-hole disc golf course in a city park with campsites. Didn't see any signage, but found the first hole west of the parking lot. Holes are pretty short. A few have multiple teepads. Distances on the hole signs are way off. A couple short water carries, but nothing major. Good for beginners.

Lum Park is awesome! There is so much space if you want to have a picnic. There is play ground equipment spread throughout. They have multiple docks to fish from and a great swimming beach. If you’re looking for a place to have a family outing it’s the place to go. Plus I got to see some locals using the water ski jump in the lake at the park which was cool.

Absolutely beautiful Park! It has lake access Lots of picnic space with barbecues. So much fun information to learn about the local animals. Also our kids really loved running on the beach and playing on the playground equipment. The only downside to this park was that the kids wished there was more playground equipment. I highly recommend this place for parties or just a fun day out with your family.

Went out swimming here this weekend after we tried MilleLacs and realized that was to gross for my kids!! Water was nice (a little green weeds/slime.. however it’s a lake🙃).. sand was nice and clean, nice little dock. Perfect area for my small toddlers!

Lum park is a great place to go for many reasons. The first one I can think of is there usually isn't many people there. As for the people that are there, they tend to spread out giving everybody enough space. They have a frolf course and camper camping. They also do have a small beach, fishing pier, and boat launch. Great place for the whole family.
