Overview
MacMillen RV Park offers a quiet and unpretentious retreat for travelers exploring the high desert landscapes of West Texas. As a family-owned and operated establishment, the park focuses on providing a peaceful environment without the distractions of larger commercial resorts. Travelers often find that the personal touch of the management makes their stay feel more like home than a standard stopover.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the heart of Fort Davis, the park sits at an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet, ensuring cooler summer temperatures than the surrounding lowlands. The scenic mountain vistas are a highlight, with the Davis Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop for every sunset. Its central location allows visitors to enjoy the small-town charm of Fort Davis while remaining immersed in the vast, open spaces of the Trans-Pecos region. You are just minutes away from local boutiques and historical landmarks that capture the spirit of the Old West.

A short drive leads to the Fort Davis National Historic Site, one of the best-preserved frontier military posts in the American Southwest. For those interested in the cosmos, the world-renowned McDonald Observatory is nearby, offering spectacular Star Parties under some of the darkest skies in the country. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of hiking, biking, and birdwatching opportunities at Davis Mountains State Park, which is located just a few miles down the road from the RV park entrance.

This park is ideal for budget-conscious RVers and independent travelers looking for a quiet home base. It appeals to travelers who prefer a no-frills experience where the natural environment and local culture take center stage. If you enjoy stargazing, historical exploration, and a community-oriented vibe rather than a crowded resort setting, this park provides the perfect balance of comfort and utility. Friendly new owners, great sunsets and watch the Milky Way appear in the dark skies. The bath / shower house is brand new and very nice. The park is set back from the highway a bit so traffic noise is not a problem. Fort Davis and the parks, Marfa is 22 miles, Alpine is 24, right nearby. If you're exploring Texas and the Big Bend, I really recommend: - Swimming at San Solomon springs, Balmoreah - Walking downtown Fort Davis, seeing the old US Army fort - Hike at the state park, if you're up for it - A slow scenic drive up to McDonald Observatory then back around the "scenic loop" - one of the prettiest drives in America. - Back to Camp Davis for a nice soaking bath in their tub, then watching the stars come out.

Great location and the manager was friendly. Shower rooms were nice but were only cleaned once in a 10 day stay. Laundry room - machines were broken and the manager said they have been for a year. Sites were good, hookups & water worked. Just seems like they need a bunch of maintenance to get it back in good shape. Amazing views of stars at night!!!

Typical western environment...nice people

Best part sites are wide, road and sites are gravel. One road acts as drainage ditch, badly washed out while we were here. Very few trees, laundry driers are a joke an hr and clothes not fully dried. Exhaust ducks probably clogged.

this is nothing more than a sticker filled field in disrepair. no trees, muddy paths, old worn tables, ours had an old beer bottle on it., no cable and terrible wifi . not happy! the office person was very nice.

Quiet place that’s barely a mile from the center of town. The person running it is quite nice, water/electric/sewer hook up at each spot. There’s a nice, constant wind that, combined with some shade, made sitting outside pleasantly warm.

My fiancé and I stayed here for 4 nights while on our West Texas road trip and it was absolutely wonderful. The grounds are perfect for what we needed and there is access to laundry as well as clean showers and bathrooms in case you’re tent camping. The surrounding area is beautiful and the owner is hospitable and accommodating. We will definitely be back!! Highly recommended!

We had two nights on route to Big Bend. Fort Davis is well worth a stop. The Fort’s history is great. We didn’t make it to the Observatory- booked out due to Full Moon and eclipse. But we strolled about town. One side is dry and the wet side was dry also, being a Wednesday night... The RV Park is centrally located to all attractions. Jeff is a very good host and assisted us with a power connection. Bathrooms are clean and hot water abundant. The Laundry is good, except the dryers are slow. Hang your clothes if you can. Overall, highly recommend.
