Mather Campground Showers and Laundry
Overview
Mather Campground offers a quintessential national park experience located deep within the pine forests of the South Rim. Managed by the National Park Service, this site provides a rustic and immersive atmosphere for those looking to stay directly inside Grand Canyon Village. Unlike commercial resorts, the park prioritizes natural beauty and quiet surroundings, making it a peaceful base camp for travelers seeking to disconnect and enjoy the stunning high-desert landscape of Arizona.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Grand Canyon Village, AZ, Mather Campground places visitors in the heart of the action. The site is surrounded by dense Ponderosa pine trees that provide abundant shade and privacy between campsites. Its prime location allows easy access to the main park entrance and the free shuttle bus system, which makes navigating the rim trails and village hubs incredibly convenient for all visitors, regardless of the size of their travel vehicle.
Amenities & Park Features
While Mather Campground emphasizes a back-to-basics approach, it provides essential services for modern campers. There are no hookups on-site, so visitors should arrive prepared for dry camping. Crucially, travelers can find public coin-operated showers and laundry facilities nearby at the Camper Services building in Mather Campground to freshen up after a long day of hiking. Fire rings and picnic tables are standard at every site, perfect for outdoor evening gatherings.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw is the proximity to the Grand Canyon itself. You are only minutes away from breathtaking viewpoints like Mather Point and the historic El Tovar Hotel. Guests can easily access miles of rim-side hiking trails directly from the campground, or catch the park shuttle to reach the visitor center and museum. Whether you prefer sunrise photography or guided geological tours, the options for exploration are endless throughout the South Rim area.
Who This Park Is Best For
Mather Campground is the ideal destination for travelers who value proximity to natural wonders over full-service resort amenities. It is best suited for nature lovers and hikers who want to wake up within the national park boundaries. If you enjoy a quiet, forest-floor setting and have the equipment necessary for self-sufficient off-grid camping, this location provides an unmatched experience for your Grand Canyon adventure.

Website says the showers are open till 9:45 but when we got here the person working said that the website is wrong and it’s actually been changed to 7:45. If you know the website is wrong then why don’t you have someone change it. Unless that isn’t the actual time they close now and they just don’t want to let anyone go shower… Extremely frustrating to get here at 7:50 and find out that they won’t let us in to shower.

My email came back so I publish it here : Hello, We checked in at 5pm, we went directly to the showers and the laundry. It is 8.30pm, our clothes are not dry yet ! We have been in the laundry for more than 3 hours. We are 18 people. We spent more than 80 dollars. The washing machines are ok. But the dryers don't work at all. One drying is 1.25. Our 4th dry is turning at this time. And this is the same case for all the dryers we are using (4 or 5 are turning at the same time). We came here 2 years ago, and didn't have this problem. Maybe the dryers are too old. Or maybe they are new, but bad quality. I don't know. The only thing I know is that our evening is awful. I talked to the guy who works here. He kindly refunded 3.75$, but it is far from rhe amount of money that we wasted in your machines. I hope you will answer this mail and give us our money back. Our evening is already dead, and there is nothing that you can do for this. Best regards.

$5.50 big load and $1.25 to start the dryer will need more time. The facility was clean and the young lady cleaning up was friendly and helpful. Pretty good hours 7AM to 10PM. The shower were clean but I did not use them.

If you're full time RVers, this laundry is very convenient. $2.50/washer ( 2 bigger ones at $5.50). Dryer: $1,25. They also have showers, i haven't used them though. There's also a dump station with potable water.

Showers until 9:45 pm, you can purchase a shower token for $2.5 per 5 minutes with a tap. Alternatively, quarters are accepted. Each shower has a private anteroom for changing.

We only used for laundry here. Clean and well maintained 👍 - change machines - newer washers/driers - half machines are out of service due to COVID

Nice. Clean. In the middle of the night someone's car alarm went off for a while before they turned it off, fireworks being shot off. Showers were 5 minute walk from our tent. Not far until you have hiked in and out of the canyon in a day.

Nice warm clean showers couldn't ask for anything more. Each shower area has a small changing area. Wonderful way to clean up after getting sweaty hiking

I’ll give that this place is clean and well organized but Um why do they close @11am. Who wants to do laundry early in the morning. Smh.

Nice location to shower and wash some laundry. Lines can be a little long at times. Sure feels good to wash off the trail dust, sweat, and sunblock.
