We decided to do a last minute kayak trip. We called and she has a group leaving in 20 minutes if we could make it. We arrived and everyone was friendly and welcoming!

Rented a cabin. Floors of the cabin are not clean, couch had dog hair on it, pillows smelled of dog, and water service smells terrible. The location on the river and trees are great. I would pick a hotel or other campground over Matson's. Place needs some maintenance. May be fine for tent camping or if you want to rough it, but not luxury for certain.

Great rustic campsite, my buddy had reserved for the weekend. Right across the drive from the river. Staff was incredibly friendly. And even made a suggested charter for my buddy to harvest some salmon.

Great campground on the Big Manistee River. We rented the lodge for a multi-family trip and it was perfect for our needs. Clean, comfortable, and a great location on the river. Owners are friendly, helpful, and were quick to respond both before we arrived and while we were onsite.

Components of a good campsite in descending order or importance: 1. Good size lots; 2. Clean restrooms; 3. Friendly hosts/campers; 4. Amenities; 5. Something special. Matsons has very small lots, clean restrooms; Friendly hosts but unfriendly campers; no amenities and an amazing river. Hence the rating. Good for boat based fisherman but not families. I'd advise the owners to drop a few lots and develop into more amenities.

Great place to get away and do some fishing. It sits right on the Manistee River. Great fall salmon fishing and steelhead throughout the fall and winter. The cabins are a little outdated but acceptable. It's a one of a kind experience. One of the only places that you can camp along the river. They offer tent camping, rv camping and cabins. The town of Manistee has a nice beach and lighthouse pier right on Lake Michigan. Lots of interesting places in the area and some pretty decent food in town.

Loved our experience! Great location for kayaking on the Big Manistee River. Cheryl and her staff were super to work with setting everything up for our event with 8 people. We had 2 RVs and a cabin for our group, 1 person had their own kayak, and they accommodated our group without a hitch and always a smile! We had a great time! Thank you!

Matson's is a long tradition with friends one weekend per summer. The campground is super clean, there's a bathhouse that is always clean, and even the porta-johns are kept up regularly. It is a quick jaunt to the public access river point where we tube down river back to Matson's. About a 3 hour float( pending river flow, of course). This is a family run business and is taken care of with great pride. I very highly recommend camping here in the Manistee National Forest and enjoying the calm river! It is so beautiful!!
