Mayflower (Riverside County Park)
Overview
Mayflower Park, managed by Riverside County, offers a scenic retreat along the banks of the Colorado River. This regional park provides a welcoming atmosphere for travelers seeking a mix of desert landscapes and refreshing waterfront views. Unlike many stark desert stops, Mayflower features lush green lawns and mature shade trees, making it a popular destination for those navigating the corridor between Arizona and California. It serves as a gateway to water-based recreation while maintaining a peaceful, park-like environment for relaxation.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just six miles north of downtown Blythe, California, the park occupies a prime location directly on the river’s edge. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the rugged beauty of the Lower Colorado River Valley. Guests can enjoy the contrast of the flowing water against the backdrop of the desert horizon. The park’s positioning makes it a convenient stopover for those traveling along Interstate 10, providing easy access to local services while feeling tucked away from the highway noise.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is well-equipped for modern RVers, featuring sites with water and electric hookups, as well as several full-hookup options. Travelers appreciate the on-site boat launch, which provides direct access to the river for a day of cruising or fishing. The facility provides several key features for guests:
- A private boat launch and dock for easy river access.
- Clean restroom and shower facilities for all campers.
- Expansive grassy picnic areas with mature trees for shade.
Additional amenities include a dump station, horseshoe pits, and a playground for children.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure seekers should not miss the Blythe Intaglios, a series of ancient and massive geoglyphs located just a short drive away. The Colorado River itself is the main draw for boating, jet skiing, and fishing for bass or catfish. For nature enthusiasts, the nearby Cibola National Wildlife Refuge offers incredible opportunities for birdwatching and photography, especially during migration seasons. The town of Blythe also offers local dining and historical sites for those wanting to explore the regional culture.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for water sports enthusiasts who want quick access to the river without sacrificing basic comforts. It is also a fantastic match for winter snowbirds looking for a mild climate and a friendly community atmosphere. Families will enjoy the open spaces and playground, while nature lovers will appreciate the proximity to unique desert landmarks. It is the perfect spot for anyone who prefers a natural riverside setting over a crowded commercial RV resort.

Took my kids in late April. Campground was clean and uncrowded. The River was not warm, but not freezing either. Kids loved it. At night, it got pretty windy, but we were told that is not normal. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. The camp staff and volunteers were all friendly and helpful. We will probably be back next year.

Mayflower Regional Park was a fun and relaxing place to visit with someone. I saw many teenagers camping and spending time by the Colorado River and the whole area felt clean and welcoming. The atmosphere felt calm and friendly with campfires, laughter, and the sound of water nearby. Teenagers would love how social and laid back it feels because it gives them a chance to enjoy nature without pressure. The service was helpful especially when checking in or asking about campsite options. The value was excellent with affordable camping and RV spots. The quality of the grounds and river access was high and everything felt safe and well managed. The selection of activities like camping, exploring, and relaxing by the water made it perfect for teenagers who enjoy the outdoors. I have only been there once before writing this review but it was one of the most refreshing places I have visited. I highly recommend that teenagers go there because it gives them a chance to enjoy nature in a playful and peaceful way.

Camping Fun; The park is beautiful and well kept. Listening to the birds in the morning was my favorite along with watching the sun rise. Great park, friendly staff. Can’t wait for our next trip!

We love camping by a river, the Colorado in this case, and enjoy the comfort, simplicity and care taken with this small regional park in Blythe. The level of the river goes up/down with a scheduled released of water for agriculture. Birding is good in the park with lots of trees, along the rocky shore line and on the muddy edges of small island at a bend in the river.

It's a beautiful place with very nice and welcoming people. Tidy and clean, with showers and hookups etc. everything you need! But I've never in my life experienced such a massive amount of mosquitoes 🦟 and I live in Mexico and recently crossed the whole country along the coast...

This park campground is a prime example of a missed opportunity! The setting along the Colorado River is lovely, and it’s far enough from Interstate 10 that highway noise isn’t an issue at night. Unfortunately, the location’s potential is overshadowed by serious drawbacks. The mosquitoes were overwhelming, especially after sunset, making it nearly impossible to enjoy being outdoors. We booked a full hookup RV site, but the utility layout was awkward and hard to use. The water ran brown for several minutes, and even after extended flushing, it didn’t seem safe or advisable to use. The site itself was uneven, and the boundaries weren’t clearly marked, which made our after-dark arrival confusing and stressful. To top it off, the staff member at the entrance kiosk the next morning was curt and unsympathetic. Given all this—and the relatively high price for a county park—we left disappointed. We would not return unless major improvements are made.

The mosquitos are just down right relentless — even with 40% DEET. Truly put a damper on an otherwise beautiful park.

We were right at the Colorado River. There is plenty of space for parties and staying in the RV and fishing.
