McGee Creek RV Park

Overview

McGee Creek RV Park offers a classic Eastern Sierra experience for those seeking a quiet retreat near the wilderness. Situated near the banks of the creek, this park serves as a gateway to high alpine adventures. It provides a peaceful atmosphere away from the busier downtown corridors, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the scenic mountain landscape and crisp mountain air. It is a place where the sounds of nature take center stage during your stay.

Location & Surroundings

Located just off Highway 395, the park is approximately 15 minutes south of the town of Mammoth Lakes. The surrounding terrain is characterized by sagebrush flats, rugged granite peaks, and the winding waters of McGee Creek. Its proximity to Crowley Lake makes it a prime spot for anglers and water sports enthusiasts. The high-altitude environment offers clear starry nights and panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada range that change beautifully with the shifting light throughout the day.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed for convenience without sacrificing the rustic feel of the California mountains. It features full hookup sites with options for 30 and 50-amp electrical service, accommodating various RV sizes from small trailers to larger coaches. On-site facilities include well-maintained restrooms, hot showers, and laundry equipment to help travelers stay comfortable during extended trips. While the park maintains a natural aesthetic, guests can enjoy on-site trout fishing and easy access to a nearby general store for essentials and fishing bait.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities within a short drive of the campground. The McGee Creek Trailhead is just up the road, offering access to stunning wildflower displays in the summer and jagged peaks for hikers. Anglers can test their luck at the nearby Convict Lake or spend the day boating on the reservoir. For those interested in day trips, the geological wonders of Devil’s Postpile and the vibrant dining scene of Mammoth Lakes are both within easy reach.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for travelers who prioritize peace and quiet over high-end resort amenities like swimming pools or clubhouses. It is a fantastic choice for serious trout fishers and hikers who want to be steps away from the backcountry. Families looking for a genuine mountain basecamp and photographers seeking spectacular mountain views will find the park’s location perfectly suited to their travel style and adventurous spirit.

Great quiet spot away from the busy village or bigger RV spots. Rented an RV and all amenities provided some for a fee. Overall my family loved this place and we'll definitely be back.

Awesome campgrounds! The location was great for several nearby lakes for hiking, fishing, and relaxation. The staff at McGee campground were so awesome especially Emily. She was so helpful, patient, knowledgeable and communicative to 1st time RV renters. The RV rental was clean with all the amenities needed for a relax stay. We already made our 2026 reservation. 😎

Very beautiful campground. A little tricky to get around with our camper but nothing worth really stopping us from going back again. Everyone was very nice. The view was absolutely amazing. Right across from Crowley Lake and about 20 minutes to Mammoth Lake the town and all the amenities it possesses. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I love this RV and Tent sites. It has its own 3 ponds and stream running right on the site. Near by Wild willy Hot Springs is also only 8 miles away. It's close to Mammoth Lake, June Lake and Bishop. But if you want to just relax and rest, you can just stay at the site and enjoy the clean McGee Creek, ponds, and well maintained flower beds and trees all over the site. I love it and will make the reservation for next year now. They are open only for April to October. It gets booked really fast. So, make sure to reserve early on.

We had a lovely stay at McGee Creek. The location is amazing. The stars at night are unreal. Because you're so far out there (and your fellow campers are respectful), you do get some real peace and quiet. You're about 15 minutes from Mammoth Lakes and slightly less than an hour from Yosemite or Mono Lake. Thomas the maintenance man was very friendly and helpful. I didn't catch his name, but the gentleman in charge of the trout pond was similarly polite and had a lot of good tips for catching and preparing the fish. The bathrooms were clean. The only slight qualm I had involves the height of the shower stalls. In the men's room, they are slightly too short which makes it possible for folks to peer in to and out of while you're showering. I found that uncomfortable. I think we got very nice value for the price. All in all, I would highly recommend McGee Creek and I would return.

A very nice private campground that is well maintained. The personnel that maintain and service the property are very friendly and helpful. The office gals are very accommodating and will do their best to make you happy. The reason for just 4 stars is that no wood fires are allowed and because of the nearby highway noise. Other than that I'm going to come back again, it's enjoyable and very close to lake fishing at Crowley. A 7# rainbow was caught this week.
