This family owned campground is immaculate! Though there are seasonal sites, the transient sites are placed perfectly on the hillside with views of the Thousand Islands. We even saw tankers going by. The sites are spacious and well kept. The sweet welcoming gift was a nice touch. The location was perfect for us to enjoy the area.

We have been coming to Merry Knoll for many years. Always have a great time. Joanne & Jim are the best. Jim is always checking on everyone to see if they are comfortable or have any problems. I would recommend this campgrounds to anyone

Nice campground with great view of the river. Very welcoming owners. Bathrooms are clean. The complimentary carrot cake on arrival was delicious. Merry Knoll is conveniently located to Clayton.

The only thing this place has going for it is the view at the very end of the campground. Overall the campground was more permanent residents than recreational campers. Many of the permanent residents had dogs that roamed freely off a leash and did lots of barking. The owner Jim was not really a welcoming type. My husband asked if we could have a late checkout the following day. At first when he asked Jim he sort of grumbled and told my husband to go see his wife to pay extra and sign papers. My husband did and asked if we could stay until 2-2:30 and she charged him the extra. When we got back from our boat tour at 1:45 Jim was waiting at our site obviously angry. He said to me “glad you’re back”. I said, “Thanks. Yes we made it back safely.” Jim said in a nasty tone “No, I mean I’m glad you’re back because I have someone waiting for your spot”. He then proceeded to tell my husband we have to pack up because someone is waiting to pull in. We asked if we could stay until 2-2:30 the latest. It was only 1:45 when he was rushing us out. I found this to be very rude since we already paid for extra time. We basically felt like we got kicked out to let someone else in. This situation was not handled properly at all. This experience is unlike any that we’ve ever had with other campgrounds. Needless to say, we will not be back nor would we recommend this place.

If you're looking for a great atmosphere with the kindest people in the world as the owners then this is definitely the place for you to go and relax and enjoy camping with your family or friends. They have a beautiful in-ground pool that is always crystal clear to swim in. Very nice clean campground at all times. Jim the owner is one of the nicest guys and is very helpful with everyone that passed through. Highly recommend this five star campground.

My family spent Memorial Day weekend at Merry Knoll Campground. I cannot say enough about the owners and their willingness to go the extra mile to make our stay a memorable one. The campground is family friendly, and the seasonal campers were kind and a pleasure to spend the weekend with. I highly recommend a visit to Merry Knoll if you plan to be in the area.

Twice at this place, the first time it was mostly empty, the second time it was busy. Campground is geared mostly toward annual renters with permanent and semi permanent camps near the edge of the steep hill and beyond. Most of the wooded area consists of seasonal renters as well, sporting assorted RVs. There are rules in place pertaining to renters, which is fine with me. Your view of the river is a ways back from the embankment, but you are allowed to hike down to the dock. Sites are quite close together, in fact, another individual was complaining about having the adjacent camp's sewer pipe next to his patio area. Admittedly, if you are not in an end spot you will be cramped. Public bath is kept clean, owner does this once a day. Trash dumpster is at the main road exit to the park. Jim, the owner, rides one of his golf carts around the park pretty much nonstop. Just be aware that uncharges for electric service are in place. 30 amp service is standard with a full hookup, however, if you use one AC unit it's an up charge, two AC units another up charge. 50 amp service is $9 per day more. Our first visit found the fireplace to be full of cat box contents and a few items of trash. We never used it, but did police the site up a bit. On our second, most recent visit, the fireplace was mostly empty but the cat box contents were at the bottom of the power pole next to us. I mentioned it loudly enough so whomever it belonged to must have picked it up, as it vanished. If you have a pet, you must take care that it's not on the loose and endangering others or destroying property (per the rules). This policy, I totally agree with. On the other hand, the owner allows his large dog to run loose, raising havoc where it sees fit. Certainly doing his business wherever he pleases and running into open doors and camper's vehicles. It aggressively came after our four month old dog, which is always on a leash, and in the process of being trained. Fortunately, I was the person with her, and was able to extricate her before she was injured. During this event, the owner was chatting with another individual watching it occur. Not a word from him. From what other campers iterated to me after the fact, this behavior is not uncommon. All campers with dogs were extremely responsible, I must say. The cats, maybe not so much. In summation, we don't intend to return, and in fact, left a day early (paid in full) due to the stress of having to deal with a small common "green" area for people and pets, with uncertainty as to the possibility of another aggressive visit by the owner's dog. Just to reiterate, the campers were very considerate, as they are in almost every place we've visited..
