Military Park Fort Chaffee RV Park (Fort Chaffee)
Overview
Military Park Fort Chaffee RV Park offers a disciplined yet peaceful retreat for eligible travelers. Located on the historic grounds of the Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center, this park serves as a reliable home base for military families and veterans exploring western Arkansas. Unlike bustling commercial resorts, this facility focuses on providing a clean, quiet, and secure environment. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate a no-frills, organized atmosphere where the legacy of service is deeply felt throughout the grounds.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside of Fort Smith, the park is nestled within the Chaffee Crossing area, a region that has transitioned from a strictly military zone to a vibrant community hub. The surroundings feature rolling hills and wooded patches typical of the Arkansas River Valley. Travelers will find themselves close to the border of Oklahoma, offering a unique geographic position. The area feels secluded and safe, yet it remains conveniently close to the urban conveniences of the city, including grocery stores and medical facilities.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides essential services to ensure a comfortable stay for short or long-term visitors. The facility focuses on paved, level sites that accommodate a variety of rig sizes. On-site amenities include:
- Full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
- Convenient and clean laundry facilities.
- Well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers.
While the park maintains a rustic vibe, the inclusion of these utilities and the presence of a camp host ensure a functional and stress-free experience for self-contained RVers.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
There is no shortage of history and outdoor recreation nearby. Nature enthusiasts should visit the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center, which features interactive exhibits and scenic trails. History buffs will enjoy the Fort Smith National Historic Site, detailing the era of Judge Isaac Parker. For a closer look at the base's history, the Chaffee Barbershop Museum—where Elvis Presley famously received his military haircut—is a must-see. Additionally, the nearby Arkansas River provides excellent opportunities for fishing and boating.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for military-affiliated travelers who prioritize security and affordability over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for retirees or active-duty members looking for a quiet place to rest while traveling through the Mid-South. Because of its location on a training site, it appeals to those who enjoy a structured environment and a sense of camaraderie with fellow veterans. If you prefer a tranquil, wooded setting and a straightforward camping experience, this location is a perfect fit for your next Arkansas stopover.

Was overgrown, poorly maintained but very pretty , the slot assigned to us was occupied, no shade in slot we ultimately had to take

Quiet & feel safe. No frills but very reasonably priced for 50 amp full service. Would stay again.

Great place, we had a spot with full hookups and 50 amps, good Verizon and T mobile services. The place is quiet and relaxing. The view is pretty. The only negative about it is how hard it is to get anybody on the phone, and get the information about it.

Park is on base which is really nice, very small but has full hookups and sits up on a hill which has a nice few. Base is busy when they have troops there, but during my stay it was very empty. Only 4 of us in the park. Gravel roads and spots.. I will come back.

Shady spots. Plenty of space between the sites. Very peaceful natural setting. Great place for long refreshing walks. The PX is close by and Ft. Smith is very modern with most everything you need or want. Three places we visited during our stay was Mt. Nebo and Mt. Magazine and drove the Pig Trail thru the Ozark National Forest, all were spectacular well worth the drive.

The roads could use a little work, the sites could use some fresh gravel to level them out and the reservation system needs some work. Other than that it’s a nice quiet RV park with plenty of space between sites. Obviously you must be eligible to stay here since it’s on post, but I like that because it more secure. Full hookups at a good price, but if you require laundry and a latrine this place isn’t for you.

Very clean and quite! Everyone at the office is accommodating. Our 34’ coach made it easily in and out. It’s a great stay, especially for 8.50 nightly w/full hookups.
