Mt Baker-Snoqualmie/Shannon Creek

Overview

Shannon Creek Campground offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest escape within the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Situated along the northern shores of Baker Lake near Concrete, Washington, this campground provides a serene atmosphere for those looking to reconnect with nature. It is characterized by its towering evergreens and immediate access to the water, making it a highly sought-after destination during the peak summer months when the lake is at its most inviting for seasonal travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away at the end of a scenic forest road, the park is surrounded by the rugged, breathtaking beauty of the North Cascades. The location feels pleasantly secluded, situated roughly 20 miles north of the small town of Concrete. Visitors are treated to views of the surrounding peaks and the crystal-clear waters of the lake, which beautifully reflect the dense forest canopy and the dramatic Washington sky that defines this alpine region.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a primitive camping area, meaning there are no electrical hookups or utility connections available on-site. The park is managed to maintain its natural state, offering a few essential facilities for visitors to enjoy their stay safely and comfortably:

  • Vault toilets located conveniently throughout the loops
  • Potable water available via hand pumps
  • Concrete boat launch for direct lake access
  • Standard picnic tables and fire rings at each site

The park is best suited for rigs that can operate independently, as there is no dump station or pressurized water hookup on the premises.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. Hikers often explore the Baker Lake Trail, a path that winds through old-growth forests and offers stunning lake vistas across its entire length. The lake itself is a premier destination for kokanee fishing and swimming during the warmer months. For those willing to explore the broader region, the majestic overlooks of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan are within driving distance for spectacular day trips.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who enjoy boondocking in a truly rustic environment. Because of the limited facilities and the lack of modern utilities, it primarily appeals to travelers seeking silence and starlight over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for small to medium-sized rigs and adventure-seekers who want a waterfront camping experience deep within the heart of the Washington wilderness without the distractions of the city.

The Verlot Visitors Center is staffed by wonderful, helpful administrators and Rangers. The gift shop has a variety of both national parks and indigenous art and crafts items available at affordable prices. Hiking guides, wildlife and vegetation pamphlets and books, and friendly suggestions are abundant. I love this area and can't wait to return for further explorations of the many trails.

We had a trip to Seattle last weekend. My friend introduced us to go to the trail Lake 22. This is the second time our family hiked on long trail. We take more than two hours to get the end. The lake is so beautiful with snow on. It looks amazing. There is no word to describe about this. Your guys can take a look on my pictures. Recommend for everyone come and experience.

We hiked the Lake 22 trail. The trail has some very well maintained sections, while others can be a little rough in your ankles. Bring waterproof shoes! A big portion of this trail is basically traversing a stream bed. The parking lot fills up fast so make sure you get there early.

Baker Lake is absolutely stunning! Campground is clean and quite. Campsite was a little smaller then expected. I was glad I reserved two sites and they were next to each other.

As an East Coast girl, I decided to head out to Washington State! Cindy, the camp host was amazing! She was friendly and informative about the area. Cindy kept Shannon Creek in immaculate condition... who knew an outhouse could be so clean! The camp site was also clean with a beautiful view of Baker Lake. Kudos to Cindy for making my camping trip a fun and welcoming place to be!
