Mt Blue

Overview

Mt. Blue State Park serves as a premier destination for those seeking the quintessential Maine wilderness experience. Located in the town of Weld, this expansive park is divided into two distinct sections: the Webb Lake area and the Mt. Blue area. As the largest state park in the region, it offers a stunning backdrop of rugged mountains and clear waters, making it a favorite for RVers who prioritize natural beauty over resort-style luxuries. Whether visiting in the lush summer or the vibrant autumn, the park provides a deep connection to the outdoors and a peaceful retreat for seasonal travelers.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated deep in the scenic hills of Western Maine, surrounding the picturesque shores of the beautiful Webb Lake. The landscape is dominated by the looming presence of Mt. Blue, which rises over 3,000 feet above the valley floor. Travelers will find themselves immersed in a dense forest environment where the air is crisp and the surroundings are exceptionally quiet. This remote location offers a serene escape from the hustle of urban life, with dark, starry skies that are perfect for evening relaxation outside your rig.

Amenities & Park Features

The camping facilities at Mt. Blue provide a traditional, rustic outdoor experience for the modern traveler. While there are no electrical or water hookups at individual sites, the park offers a convenient dump station and fresh water fill-up points for RVers. Visitors have access to a large sandy beach, a boat launch, and a vibrant nature center that hosts seasonal educational programs. Well-maintained restrooms with hot showers ensure a comfortable stay, while picnic areas and a playground make it easy for families to enjoy the grounds throughout the day.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for those visiting the Weld area. Hiking enthusiasts often tackle the rigorous trail to the summit of Mt. Blue for panoramic views of the entire region. The nearby Tumbledown Mountain is another must-see, famous for its unique alpine pond located near the top. On the water, Webb Lake is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing for trout and salmon, while the park’s extensive multi-use trail system provides ample opportunities for mountain biking and wildlife watching in the dense Maine woods.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for RVers who enjoy dry camping and self-sufficiency in a true wilderness setting. It appeals most to families looking for a classic summer lake vacation and adventurous hikers wanting easy access to the high peaks of Franklin County. If you prefer a quiet, woodsy atmosphere where the calls of loons replace the hum of city traffic, Mt. Blue State Park is a perfect fit for your Maine travel itinerary. It is best suited for those who appreciate the simpler, more natural side of the RV lifestyle.

Nice state park with good size sites all wooded very limited number with power and water. Excellent camper discharge station and fresh water fill up. A little hike to beach but worth it.

A nice state campground right next to Webb Lake. Access to the beach/picnic area is a short drive/walk away, depending where you are in the campground. Our site had a short trail close by that led right to the beach. Some of the sites were bigger than others, but all were surrounded by trees that provided a good amount of privacy and shade. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. The closest restroom to our site was a pit toilet, but it seemed to be cleaned regularly. There was also a dishwashing station next to the toilets. The shower house had free hot showers and nicer restrooms with mirrors/sinks. The ranger station sold firewood and ice, and had maps of the area available. We really enjoyed our stay here. It was very relaxing and in close proximity to hiking in the area. I would highly recommend it!

Stayed at Site 22 and had a great experience overall. The campground is typical of Maine state parks—well-maintained and scenic. The campsites offer a decent amount of space between them, though you can still see and hear neighboring campers. Verizon service is very limited in the campground area. If you need a signal, your best bet is to head toward the lake near the beach, where the reception improves slightly. Views of the surrounding mountains are nice from the lake. Easy access to hiking in the Tumbledown area. I do wish the trails around the campground area were better maintained. Would have made for a nice stroll in the early morning but they were very overgrown. Otherwise, would definitely recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a quiet and scenic time away.

This state park is so awesome. We were so impressed with how handicap accessible everything is (neither of us are handicapped but the trails and the access were just so impressive)!!! The electric sites look very nice, the showers were hot and clean, and the bathrooms were so clean. Stayed here for two nights for our end of season camp out, can’t wait to come back next year to paddle board!

Beautiful setting and area, tight camp sites but a few larger and more open ones. Nice lake and a good playground here

We first reserved site 123 but thought it was a little too open for us so we asked if we could switch to site 40 which is more wooded. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly! The campground itself was very quiet because we stayed the second weekend of September. The bathrooms were clean. Showers are separate from the toilets. Campsites are regularly picked up and checked after people leave. There are animals to see throughout, we saw rabbits, frogs, bats, various rodents and lots of birds! The beach area and boat launch are awesome! The water is crystal clear and shallow. There is a changing room and bathroom area at the beach, as well as a large playground area and covered picnic tables. The trails that run along the lake have picnic tables and grills scattered in the woods. The boat launch has a nice dock, plenty of parking and a good loop around road for trailers. Though we didn't have much luck fishing at the boat launch it was a beautiful view and we are definitely coming back next year!

We had a lovely time at this park, found the staff very friendly and helpful. They helped us find a spot so we wouldn't have to move 4 times like I had set up online thru reservations. We left multiple times with gear and a kayak left out and had no problems with theft as someone else described. I enjoyed running on the newly paved roads. It was a mile from our campsite to the road and .5 miles from office to boat dock. We walked swett road but found multiple loose dogs along it which I try to avoid while running. Loved the free showers too, they do vary in temperature and pressure. Great hikes nearby!!

Family-friendly campground with clean bathrooms & nice sites. We stayed a weekend, but would have happily stayed a week! Photos are from the short, but lovely loop trail that starts beside the campground's nature center.

Great overall campground! Very quiet at quiet hours. Firewood and ice for sale at the entrance booth. Boat rentals for cheap. Camp sites were a bit close but well maintained. They have weekly activities for kids. A nature center, and a weather forecasting lesson. Movies shown at the amphitheater every Saturday Night it seems. Beech trees and mushrooms galore. Grate for cooking on fire pit. Picnic tables at every site. Water tap and bathrooms not far from any site. Showers were a bit of a walk but you can also drive to them. Same with the beach. Great swimming! Bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve ever been in.
