Mt Magazine/Cameron Bluff Campground
Overview
Mt Magazine State Park is home to the Cameron Bluff Campground, perched near the highest point in the state of Arkansas. This destination is renowned for its breathtaking vistas and cooler temperatures compared to the lowlands of the river valley. It offers a refined mountain experience while maintaining a deep connection to the rugged natural landscape of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, making it a premier stop for regional travelers seeking high-altitude tranquility.
Location & Surroundings
Located just south of Paris, AR, the campground sits atop the massive Mount Magazine plateau. The elevation provides a unique climate where rare wildflowers and endangered butterflies thrive in the high-altitude ecosystem. Surroundings include sheer limestone bluffs and dense hardwood forests that stretch for miles. From the various overlooks near the site, travelers can see the Petit Jean River Valley and the Blue Mountain Lake shimmering in the distance below the rugged cliffs.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features 28 well-maintained sites equipped with full hookups, which include water, electric, and sewer connections for modern rigs. Unlike many primitive mountain camps, this facility offers a modern bathhouse with hot showers and a convenient dump station for visitor use. Each site is paved to accommodate various RV sizes and includes a picnic table and grill, ensuring a comfortable stay while surrounded by the untamed beauty of the high-country wilderness.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure seekers often head to the Signal Hill Trail, which leads hikers directly to the state's highest elevation point. The area is also a premier destination for hang gliding and rock climbing due to the sheer bluff faces and favorable wind currents. For those seeking a slower pace, the visitor center offers interpretive programs, while the nearby park lodge features a full-service restaurant with massive windows overlooking the valley below.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an ideal match for nature photographers and hikers who want immediate access to scenic trailheads and sunrise views. Because of the paved sites and full utility options, it is perfect for RVers who enjoy mountaintop solitude without sacrificing modern conveniences like power and water. It is particularly popular for couples and families during the autumn months when the foliage transforms into a vibrant display of reds and oranges.

Inside Mt Magazine Arkansas State Park...a great hiking area... most sites are reasonably level, all have 30 amp service, water and sewer. Very shaded, peaceful and quiet.

Beautiful place. Lots of trees with shade. Hiking trails for all levels. BIG PROBLEM. Winds blowing with thick leaves on ground. Burn ban signs all over the park. Yet a FEW campers were allowed raging fires in the morning. Complained 2 mornings. Looked like "administration staff " allowed the fires after inspecting. No rain all summer. Forest fires real possibility. Winds expected to be 25mph. Not sure if we will be evacuating fast.

Really nice campground and not far to trailer atv to horse camp to ride. Water, sewer, and one I looked at was 30 amp. Had bathrooms.

Pretty campground with nice bath house facilities. Campsite 7 is handicap accessible if needed. We did not see any bears, but it is definitely advisable to follow all of the recommendations by the park due to it being the most populous area of black bears in the state of Arkansas. Firewood for sale at both the visitor center and lodge.

Perfect tent and hammock camp spot near washroom. This whole campground was clean, well up kept and good fair price. Remember it's always colder up here as it's the highest point in Arkansas. We will be back year after year to ride motorcycles in all the great curvey roads in the area.

This is my second time to camp here with my Motorhome and I love it!! The beauty of the surrounding is breathtaking. It's an awesome place to meditate and refresh your soul. Spent many childhood summer at Cove Lake at the bottom of Mt. Magazine. Now they had activities to do on the lake grounds. The Visitors Center people are so knowledgeable and friendly. I also enjoy their store! Super nice restaurant at the lodge. Will always come back as often as possible! Call way ahead for weekend reservations.
