Natural Falls

Overview

Natural Falls State Park is a stunning scenic gem located in the lush Ozark Highlands of Northeast Oklahoma. Best known for its breathtaking 77-foot waterfall that cascades into a crystal-clear pool, the park offers a tranquil escape into a deep, moist valley filled with rare ferns and diverse flora. It provides a unique blend of natural beauty and outdoor recreation, making it a premier destination for travelers who want to immerse themselves in a quiet, forested environment.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the small community of Colcord, Oklahoma, the park sits conveniently near the Arkansas state line, providing easy access for travelers from both states. The surrounding landscape is defined by the rugged beauty of the Ozark Mountain foothills, characterized by dense hardwood forests and rocky outcrops. The park is nestled in a narrow valley where the cascading water creates a cool, shaded microclimate that feels worlds away from the surrounding plains.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground caters to RV travelers with a variety of site types, including several full hookup RV sites alongside water and electric options. The facilities are well-maintained, featuring modern comfort stations with hot showers and a convenient laundry room for long-term guests. For active visitors, the park boasts a professional disc golf course, five miles of hiking trails, and dedicated courts for basketball and volleyball, ensuring there is plenty of recreation within walking distance of your rig.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the hiking trail system that leads to multiple observation platforms overlooking the falls. Anglers will enjoy the catch-and-release fishing available in the park lake, while history buffs can explore the site where scenes from the classic film Where the Red Fern Grows were captured. Just across the border, the charming town of Siloam Springs offers additional dining, boutique shopping, and historic architecture for a pleasant afternoon excursion.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is an exceptional choice for nature photographers and birdwatchers who want to capture the unique biological diversity of the canyon. It is perfectly suited for families and retirees who prefer the quiet, reflective atmosphere of a scenic state park over the hustle of a commercial RV resort. Travelers looking for a peaceful home base to explore the Western Ozarks will find the park's serene environment and natural splendor truly rejuvenating.

Nice small park with one small waterfall and few walking trails. Can spend 30 min to 3 hours depending on how many trails you cover. Parking at $10 but no other ticket. Good pitstop on the way to Tulsa.

The Yurt 🛖 stay was fantastic, and literally just above the falls. I highly recommend visiting this state park. The Yurt has a fire pit, two chairs, a fridge and microwave, and comes with heat/AC. You can't drive your vehicle to the Yurt, but they provide you a golf cart to get there. *No water at Yurt campground

Awesome trails pretty short. Lots of fun. Becareful of small rolling rocks in Bear trail. The springs are so beautiful. Bring water and sandwiches they have benches to seat and eat along your hiking trails. And it is pet friendly.

A beautiful place to visit. It's only $10 to park and fun for the whole family. The trail to the falls is short, but there are other trails available. You cannot get into the water, but it's a beautiful sight nonetheless.

Wow! We went after a few days of heavy rain and the waterfall was amazing! When we got there, we went inside the visitors lodge and we got our parking pass (MUST HAVE a parking pass, it’s only $10) the staff were very helpful and delightful. The trail to the waterfall is a very short walk, it’s paved the entire way, the signs make it very easy to navigate and there are many other trails that are longer with different difficulty levels that we are very excited to check out next time we go! On the way to the waterfall is a lookout point where you can get a Birds Eye view of the waterfall! The Yurts looked super spacious for a family or large friend group. Highly recommend natural falls state park to anyone! Cannot wait to go back and explore more!

The girl at the front desk was absolutely amazing! Super sweet, she provided stickers for our passports and highlighted the map for the sights we wanted to see. The park is free to visit, but remember you HAVE to have a parking pass which is $10 a day or you'll get a $20 ticket. The trail down to the waterfall is a bit steep, and can be slippery when wet, so wear appropriate shoes! We came in July, but came at 830 when the visitor center opened, and it began to get too hot towards the end of our hike! We did the dripping springs trail to the falls and back around to the spillway, then did the bear trail back to the parking area. They were short trails, but the bear trail is difficult if done during the hottest part of the day, and is a rather rocky hike up to the top. There wasn't much water in the waterfall even though it rained the night before, but was still a beautiful hike down to it!

This park was amazing, I walked to all 3 of the observation platforms. The first one is a very easy walk, and the second viewing spot is a long foot bridge that looks down into the waterfall. The park is beautifully maintained. Very nice playground for the kids. The RV park looked very nice. They also have tent camping.

Natural Falls State Park was a huge hit for our family. My boys (ages 8 & 6) loved the hiking trails and they weren’t too difficult for us to navigate. The waterfall is breathtaking and only a short hike from the parking lot. There are some paved paths that lead to a view of the waterfall, but most of the trails are rock. I do recommend you have some good hiking shoes to help navigate if you plan to walk down the trails. It’s a short drive from Northwest Arkansas or even the surrounding Tulsa area. I highly recommend you put Natural Falls State Park on your list to visit and enjoy some family time outdoors.

We live in Tennessee and travel to Oklahoma every year to spend time with family. Natural Falls State Park is the prettiest State park we have ever camped in. The sites are huge and the scenery is absolutely beautiful! It is a very well maintained park. We so enjoy RVing here every year. The ONLY thing I don't like is the cost to get in for all others. Everytime one of our children want to come and visit they have to pay. We always stay a week, so this gets expensive. But still a Great Park!

Updating my review since the last time I’ve been here. Unfortunately, not for better reasons. They have doubled the price for admittance but they really haven’t improved or added anything. Also, I’ve been to hiking trails and waterfalls in Maui that were far less restrictive than this place. It says “fragile ecosystem“ but they can give no explanation as to why it’s actually fragile. It’s ridiculous that you have to stay so restricted and “on the path“ when there’s really no reason. There are no protected species, no protected plants and there is nothing fragile about the ecosystem around here at all. It’s infuriating that you don’t get the full experience, especially now that they’re charging double the price. I used to love this place but I seriously doubt I’ll be coming back
