Norfork Lake - COE/Bidwell Point

Overview

Bidwell Point is a standout Army Corps of Engineers (COE) facility perched on the serene shores of Norfork Lake. Located in the quiet community of Gamaliel, Arkansas, this park is celebrated for its scenic peninsula layout and direct access to the crystal-clear depths of the Ozarks. It offers a classic camping experience where the natural environment takes center stage, providing a tranquil escape for travelers looking to disconnect and enjoy the rugged beauty of North Central Arkansas. The park is well-maintained and provides a peaceful alternative to busier commercial resorts in the region.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on a sprawling peninsula, almost entirely surrounded by the deep, blue waters of Norfork Lake. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling hills and dense hardwood forests that provide excellent shade and a sense of privacy between sites. Because of its unique geography, many campsites provide stunning lakefront vistas or elevated views of the rocky shoreline. Its location near the Missouri border ensures a peaceful, remote atmosphere away from heavy traffic, while the nearby town of Mountain Home remains accessible for stocking up on essentials.

Amenities & Park Features

While the park leans toward a natural aesthetic, it provides essential comforts for modern RVers. Most sites feature 30 or 50-amp electric hookups, and many are equipped with sturdy concrete pads and heavy-duty picnic tables. Facilities include modern bathhouses with showers, a convenient dump station, and a playground for children. Boaters will appreciate the well-maintained launch ramp and the designated swimming beach, which is a popular gathering spot during the warm summer months. Potable water is also available throughout the campground for guest convenience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water recreation is the primary draw here, with Norfork Lake offering world-class fishing for bass, walleye, and crappie. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, which is one of the largest trout-producing facilities in the country. The nearby North Fork River is also a premier destination for fly fishing and paddling. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the area serves as a gateway to the Ozark National Forest, providing endless opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, and landscape photography.

Who This Park Is Best For

Bidwell Point is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who want easy, affordable access to the water. Its quiet, family-friendly atmosphere and spacious campsites make it a top choice for those seeking a traditional lake vacation without the noise and density of a commercial resort. Because it is a COE park, it is particularly attractive to travelers looking for budget-friendly accommodations in a pristine setting, especially those who carry the America the Beautiful pass and enjoy a slower pace of life surrounded by nature.

Awesome camp site. Good boat launch, beach is not good right now but not the best time of year for swimming. High water messed it up, they haven't repaired yet. But great views quiet, peaceful camping and fishing!

Great place to swim and relax! Amazing sunsets! I have never camped here so I cant say but the campsites are well kept. Staff is always nice and the bathrooms are clean.

We drove from Kansas City down to camp out the night before the Eclipse which was going to be in totality in this area. It's a nice clean, quiet camp ground with full electrical and water hook-up for the RV crowd as well as people like us that just pitched a tent. The view of the Eclipse was wonderful. Mountain Home Ark is only a 10 min drive from the campground

Decided to get some work done in between showing a morning and late afternoon showing in Gamaliel, so I crashed my sons family campsite while they were on the boat. Enjoyed the cool breeze coming off the water and watching the bicyclists. Low key and quiet campground with beautiful views of the lake. This is our “go to” campground.
