Norfork Lake - COE/Henderson Park

Overview

Norfork Lake - Henderson Park is a Corps of Engineers facility offering a serene escape on the shores of one of Arkansas's most pristine bodies of water. Known for its clear blue depths and scenic Ozark foothills, this park serves as a premier gateway for water enthusiasts. Travelers will find a peaceful lakeside atmosphere that emphasizes natural beauty over commercial frills, making it a staple for those who appreciate the classic, well-maintained Army Corps camping experience.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just east of Mountain Home, AR, the park provides easy access via Highway 62. It overlooks the central portion of Norfork Lake, providing expansive views of the water and the iconic Henderson Bridge. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hardwood forests and limestone bluffs, offering a natural buffer from the bustle of the city while remaining close enough to local services and supply runs for convenience.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features electric hookup sites that cater to various RV sizes, though most spots offer a traditional back-in layout suited for mid-sized rigs. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse with flushing toilets and showers, a playground for families, and a large group picnic pavilion. Boaters will especially appreciate the multi-lane boat ramp, which provides direct access to the lake’s 22,000 acres of water, and a designated swimming beach for summer recreation.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw here, as the lake is famous for its world-class striped bass, walleye, and crappie populations. Beyond the park, visitors can explore the nearby White River for legendary trout fishing or head into Mountain Home for local dining and artisan shopping. The area is also rich with hiking trails and scenic overlooks that highlight the rugged, untouched beauty of the northern Ozark Mountains.

Who This Park Is Best For

Henderson Park is ideal for boaters and anglers who want to stay right at the water's edge for early morning launches. It is a perfect fit for families looking for a quiet swimming spot and RVers who prefer the simplicity of public parks over high-density private resorts. If you value scenic lakefront views and a relaxed pace of life, this COE park is an excellent home base for your North Arkansas adventures.

Favorite take-out spot. Go if you can. It won't last much longer due to yearly flooding. Beautiful spot to take out and see both bridges. Bathrooms are always clean.

Great spot on the lake, definitely call ahead to see which sites actually have electric and water available since the map is not right.

Water level way up, parking at top of boat launch instead of parking lot, also corp of engineers not charging to park due to high water level a lot of debris in water caution to boaters and skiers

Mrs. Pam was very pleasant and accommodating. We stayed four days and 3 nights the water is high from all the rain made it even more enjoyable because we had waterfront sites. They don't have showers but we spent most of our time in the lake anyway so it wasn't too bad. I do wish the sites closer to the lake had more trees for a shade like the ones close to the bathroom and away from the water. Either way, we will be booking the same sites for next year because it was altogether a great setup they were close but roomy enough for two tents in the grassy area.

It is set up like other Army Core, Campgrounds. Full hook ups, bath house. Good boat ramp with plenty of parking for trucks with trailers. The park is a peninsula.
