Known for its welcoming atmosphere and direct access to the Atlantic Ocean, this park provides a classic Outer Banks experience. It serves as a peaceful base for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the North Carolina coast while enjoying a friendly, community-oriented environment.
Location & Surroundings
Located in the village of Waves, the campground sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound. This narrow strip of land offers a unique geography where the Cape Hatteras National Seashore stretches in both directions. The surrounding landscape is characterized by shifting sand dunes, sea oats, and salty breezes. Travelers will find themselves within walking distance of local surf shops and small eateries that capture the authentic, rugged spirit of the Outer Banks islands.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features level paved concrete pads, which are a significant benefit for stabilizing larger rigs in the sandy island environment. Each site includes full hookups with 30 or 50-amp service, water, and sewer. On-site facilities include a swimming pool, a game room for younger guests, and well-maintained bathhouses. For added convenience, the campground offers laundry facilities and Wi-Fi access, ensuring a comfortable stay while remaining just steps away from the wild elements of the Atlantic shoreline.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away, with the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station located just minutes to the north in Rodanthe. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge for birdwatching or head south to visit the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The area is a world-class destination for water sports, including kiteboarding, windsurfing, and surf fishing. Many guests enjoy simply walking the shore to search for seashells or watching the sunrise over the horizon.
Who This Park Is Best For

It caters well to ocean lovers who want the convenience of stepping from their RV directly onto the sand. Because of its quiet nature and focus on a relaxed environment, it is best suited for those looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the slow pace of coastal island life.

After years of using this campground (twenty plus years) , we were told that they had placed us in a site that was tree covered when we specifically asked to be in the clear for using our Starlink . My wife called to check on the site and make sure everything was set,,.The grand daughter of the owners was very rude on the phone. We canceled ! We had made our reservations January 31st. This is the way you treat long time visitors?

I had made reservations to take my son and his friend to the beach. Sadly his grandmother passed away so he will be attending the funeral instead. When I called to inform the girl who answered the phone about this, she said you are within the 7 days so we will need to charge your card. A little shocked under the circumstances, so when I asked she told me it was their problem that she passed away and they are a business and that’s their policy. When I asked to speak to the manager she said it doesn’t matter she’ll just tell me the same thing. Very heartless company or their workers are. What she doesn’t know is I have owned a business too and kindness goes a long way. Of course after I got off the phone she charged my card before I could speak to her manager tonight.

Great campground. Awesome beach access. Relaxed and nice people that work there. Clean facilities, cute little pool to swim in when you are beached out. We will be back!

Bare bones RV Park. Sites are tight and somewhat challenging to back into due to the narrow roadway. There is beach access. Pool is adequate but could use more furniture. There are about 6 to 8 chairs/loungers but half of them are broken.

Best campground ever! They put us in a spot with an amazing view. Walking distance to the beach and the wifi was amazing. When you're gone a long time, we needed to catch up on some things!

This is a campground; well maintained and small with enough space between to feel private. At 75$ it’s a bit more than we are used to but being right at the beach is wonderful! The people seem nice, and the only thing missing seems to be a laundry.

Came here for the tent campsite, which is the closest to the beach according to my research. Totally was what I imagined, just over the sand bank and you're there. Doable mile beach walk/run to the pier. Very chill atmosphere with the other RV-ers, everyone waves at you. Main office had games and AC, very welcoming staff. Bathrooms were always clean and void of any odor. Only knitpick is that the restroom stalls had barely enough space between the toilet and door plus some goat heads at the campsite, but those don't stop me from coming back. For sure will recommend to our friends.

This was our first time visiting the Outer Banks and We could not have picked a more perfect place to camp! Campsites had pads, water sewer and electric also Bath houses were well maintained. Camp store (run by Barbara) was well stocked. Beach is at the end of the campground and permits are available for fires on the beach. No campfires at sites. We met some of the most friendly people there. We hopefully will return soon. Thank you for making our Bucket list trip so very memorable😊😊
