Okanogan-Wenatchee/Beth Lake
Overview
Beth Lake Campground offers a secluded retreat tucked within the vast Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Tonasket, Washington. Unlike busy commercial resorts, this high-elevation destination provides a primitive experience where the primary focus is connecting with the natural world. Travelers visit here to find a peaceful sanctuary where the sound of the wind through the pines and the gentle lap of the water against the shore replace city noise. It is an ideal spot for those looking to unplug and enjoy the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest backcountry.
Location & Surroundings
The campground is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,100 feet, roughly 30 miles northeast of the town of Tonasket. Its remote location in the Tonasket Ranger District ensures a high level of privacy and a true sense of isolation. The lake itself is surrounded by dense stands of Douglas-fir and larch trees, offering plenty of shade and a habitat for local wildlife. The surrounding mountains provide a dramatic backdrop for morning coffee and evening sunsets, making it a favorite for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Amenities & Park Features
As a National Forest site, Beth Lake provides a rustic camping experience rather than a luxury stay. The park is designed for visitors who enjoy self-sufficiency and simple living. Key features include:
- Vault toilets located centrally within the campground loops
- Individual picnic tables and fire rings provided at every site
- Access to potable water via seasonal hand pumps
While water is typically available during the summer, there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups. RVers should come prepared for dry camping. The sites are generally best suited for smaller campers and trailers due to the narrow access roads, so checking site dimensions beforehand is highly recommended.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. The lake is stocked with trout, making it a popular spot for fly fishing and non-motorized boating from the small launch area. Activities frequently enjoyed by guests include:
- Hiking the scenic Pipsissewa Trail for rewarding highland views
- Exploring the historic nearby mining town of Chesaw
- Wildlife viewing and birdwatching along the shoreline
A short drive to nearby Bonaparte Lake provides additional opportunities for swimming, boat rentals, and exploring different terrain within the forest boundaries.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is a perfect match for adventurous RVers who prioritize scenery and solitude over modern conveniences. If your travel style involves boondocking in a smaller rig or truck camper, you will find Beth Lake to be a hidden gem. It is less suited for large Class A motorhomes or those who require high-speed internet and full hookups. Instead, it serves as a premier destination for nature lovers and anglers who want to experience the raw, quiet beauty of Washington’s wilderness without the crowds found in more accessible parks.

Such a great place for a day trip. We kayaked and floated on the lake. We used the boat lunch in the campground but we also could have used the little make shift launch at the NE end of the lake. The campground has nice clean bathrooms and picnic tables near the launch so it's perfect for a nice day on the lake. People were catching brown trout out of the lake. What's really great is there is a rope swing that you can use. There is one along the road but also back towards the beaver Lake campground. Such a fun day to enjoy the beautiful weather. This definitely is the perfect spot on a hot summer day.

We choose the opposite side of lake near the creek. Many native plants, great hiking trail around lake.

Lovely campground, deeply shaded. Upper loop is served by 2 primitive outhouses, lower loop has a newer vault toilet. None of the campsites have a view of the lake, but it's a short walk even from the farthest, and the riad runs along the lake as well.

Beth Lake is spectacular. Super clear water, great fishing, and listening to the Loons is priceless. :)

Feels like you are away from everything!! And you almost are!! No phone service, no tv or radio!! Great sites, quiet, good access. Best way in is on 9480, in my opinion!! NF32 after the Lost Lake junction is a very steep, potholed, narrow paved road that will test your brakes if you are towing anything large. Stayed 4 nights in loop 3 in site 5. Very roomy, and clean. One water spigot in use when we were there. Outhouses, garbage service. Heard Elk, Loons, very little road noise. Definitely will feel like you are away from the rat race!!!

Gorgeous campground with Beth Lake on one end and a beaver pond at the other. Be advised that there is absolutely NO cell service for a 30 mile radius so go prepared and stock up at the Chesaw Mercantile. Friendly folks like Bonnie at the Merc would love to have you visit this historic town. Don't forget the real life no holds barred rodeo on the 4th of July in Chesaw.. It's a rodeo from real cowboys and ranch hands who do this stuff every day for a living, not the Coca Cola cowboy rodeos that come to the stadiums and arenas,

Good place to go camping and fishing
