Okanogan-Wenatchee/Clear Lake South
Overview
Clear Lake South is a serene retreat nestled within the expansive Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Located along the south shore of its namesake lake, this campground provides a quiet alternative to more crowded recreational areas. Unlike developed resorts, this location offers a rustic camping experience where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the Washington wilderness. Travelers visiting this destination can expect a peaceful atmosphere defined by towering evergreens and the gentle sounds of the waterfront.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just off the White Pass Scenic Byway near Naches, WA, the park is positioned in a prime location for mountain exploration. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the Cascade Range, offering a backdrop of rugged peaks and dense coniferous forests. The park sits at an elevation that keeps temperatures comfortable during the peak summer months. Its proximity to Clear Lake and the much larger Rimrock Lake ensures that water views and forest scents are constant companions during your stay.
Amenities & Park Features
As a traditional National Forest facility, the amenities at Clear Lake South are focused on necessity and nature integration. The park offers vault toilets and access to potable water via hand pumps or spigots. While there are no electricity or sewer hookups, the sites are equipped with heavy-duty picnic tables and fire rings for evening gatherings. A primary feature of the park is the paved boat ramp, which provides easy access for those looking to launch non-motorized or low-speed watercraft into the calm lake waters.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. The lake is famously stocked with rainbow trout, making it a premier destination for fishing enthusiasts. Beyond the water, hikers can access several trailheads leading into the William O. Douglas Wilderness, where alpine meadows and dramatic geological formations await. For a scenic drive, the nearby Tieton River canyon offers stunning basalt cliffs and opportunities for seasonal whitewater rafting or wildlife viewing, including elk and various bird species.
Who This Park Is Best For
Clear Lake South is ideal for boondockers and dry campers who prefer the sounds of nature over the hum of a busy RV resort. It is a perfect fit for families who enjoy fishing and kayaking in a controlled, calm environment. Due to the forest setting and site dimensions, it is best suited for small to medium-sized RVs and trailers. If you are a traveler looking to unplug and immerse yourself in the deep woods of the Pacific Northwest, this campground offers the perfect sanctuary.

Good to hang but not to camp on the darkest night of the year

Rustic camping. One water spigot is available to share between all sites. Two bathrooms are available to share between all sites. Pricing is tricky, 10$ per camping spot per night. And an ADDITIONAL 10$ per car per night. It was a beautiful spot, and I'd love to come back, but the fishing was absolutely dead. We had the lake almost to ourselves and fished nearly the entire south side for more than 6 hours on kayaks with no bites.

We LOVE this place! We come up once a year for group camping and build such great memories here! The restrooms are clean, the sites spacious and well-kept, camp host is friendly and informative and the scenery/atmosphere cannot be beat!

People who use these sites need to pick up their trash. I always do a walk through before and after I use the site to remove trash. This is one of my favorite areas to camp and fish.

Clear lake was cool but the silver Beach resort is not worth you spending your money $10 for a single can of bug spray

What a beautiful area to visit and camp between two lakes. Finding the road into this area happened by mistake but now I know the secret...LOL! There is a nice hike by the bridge up to Clear Lake.
