Okanogan-Wenatchee/Nason Creek

Overview

Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest's Nason Creek Campground offers a classic Pacific Northwest camping experience nestled within the dense forests of the central Cascade Mountains. Unlike high-density commercial resorts, this Forest Service gem provides a tranquil retreat where the melodic sound of the rushing water defines the overall atmosphere. It serves as an ideal base for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the rugged beauty of Washington State while remaining within a manageable driving distance of popular local mountain towns.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 20 miles west of the famous Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth, the park sits directly along the banks of its namesake, Nason Creek. The surrounding landscape is dominated by towering old-growth evergreens, providing a deep sense of seclusion and excellent natural shade. Its convenient proximity to the Stevens Pass highway makes it a strategic stop for travelers crossing the Cascades, offering a lush, high-elevation environment that stays refreshingly cool during the peak summer months.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional forest service campground, the facilities focus on a rustic connection to the environment. There are no utility hookups provided, so visitors should arrive prepared for dry camping in a primitive but well-maintained setting. The park features paved interior roads and parking spurs that can accommodate various RV lengths, though drivers of larger rigs should carefully check specific site dimensions. Essential amenities include potable water and vault toilets, along with spacious sites equipped with heavy-duty picnic tables and fire rings for classic evening gatherings under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities, ranging from hiking the nearby Lake Wenatchee State Park trails to fly fishing in the clear mountain waters. The area serves as a gateway to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, offering some of the best trekking and alpine vistas in the region. For a change of pace, a short drive leads to the vibrant shops and seasonal festivals of Leavenworth, where visitors can enjoy authentic German cuisine and local artisan boutiques before returning to the peaceful quiet of the forest.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is best suited for self-contained RVers who value privacy, serenity, and natural scenery over modern resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to introduce children to the wonders of the great outdoors and for nature photographers seeking the perfect mountain light. If you prefer the crackle of a wood-burning campfire and the rustle of wind through the pines over Wi-Fi and digital distractions, Nason Creek will feel like your perfect wilderness home.

Great campsites a long Nason Creek. Bathrooms are convenient, and water spigots nearby. Easy and scenic walk to the Wenatchee River and Lake Wenatchee State Park with lots of trails, a beach, snack shack, and showers.

We stumbled upon Nason Creek Campground where I jumped out of our RV without a reservation at the camp host lot and apologized for disturbing them. We were met with the warmest smiles and humor. Nick and Christina were the best hosts. They truly take pride in their work and maintenance. Nick and Christina shine building positive relationships with the campers without being a nuisance. We wish we could take them with us to be our hosts for all of our camp spots. We look forward to returning for the Wii days!

Quiet Natl Forest campground that has 3 distinct sections. Very pleasant sites along Nason Creek and right next to (walking distance) to the Winachee state park and campground. Bathrooms with flush toilets and sinks. Nice hosts.

My wife and I went camping here for two days during the week. It is a nice, clean, and quiet campground. The spaces are well arranged and not too close together. They all have a place to park and several options where to put a tent. Some even have room for multiple tents. They all have a picnic table with a spot for a camp stove. They have some next to the creek which makes for beautiful resting spots. It was super hot while we were camping so we spent most of our time in the creek. There are shallow spots where you can wade in or sit, and some deeper spots you can easily swim. The wildlife are fun to watch! Chipmunks, a family of ducks, and some baby fish in the creek. Also was nice to have flushing toilets. The caretakers were out every day making sure things were cleaned and taken care of. People were friendly but not nosey. Everyone respected our privacy and appreciated their own. It's located close enough to places to eat and not too far from Leavenworth. A less expensive option than a hotel in the town. We will be going back someday.

we camped at nason's creek recently, mid June. Unfortunately for us the weather was not warm at all and was actually pretty cold and stormy. The lows were around 40s and the highs were 50s. Bummer because I wanted to get my feet in the creek! We camped at site 44, just across from the creek and we were nearest to the bathrooms. The bathrooms are stocked with toilet paper but no hand soap. There is a powerful dryer in there. Outlets as well. For 4 people, the campsite was pretty small. We also had three dogs so maybe that was it as well. It would be perfect for a couple and one or two dogs but as far as group camping I would have liked a bigger site, even though the sizes of the sites are not listed. The camp trooper came around making sure we all had our food packed away as there was a bear who had a feast a few campsites down. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about everything in the area. It is only 30 ish mins from Leavenworth, so we visited there as well. You are only 10 mins away from lake Wenatchee if you are looking for swimming. You need a discover pass which you can purchase a day pass there at lake Wenatchee if you do not have it. It is not required for nason. I would recommend staying here. We did not experience any mosquitos or bugs. It's a perfect quiet hidden gem. Looking to go again soon!

This was a last minute unplanned stay during the summer due to moving from a nearby campground that was dusty and full of yellow jackets. I snagged a site right on the water and it was absolutely fantastic. A little boy a couple of sites over built me a bench out of a wood plank he found so I could sit and read with my feet in the water. Very cute! There was no hookup so I was lucky my site wasn't shaded so that my solar panels could do their thing. So quiet, spacious sites, lovely camp hosts. Nason Creek exceeded my expectations for sure.

It’s a nice location for camping, right next to the river, very clean. The bathrooms don’t have soap for some reason which i found it strange, even when i left my own soap it was removed the day after. There is only 1 stall in each facility. The sites are so close to each other and very small, we barely could fit 3 cars there. There was a fire ban when we were camping which took away the joy of camp fire. Overall nice experience but it could be better.
