Pearrygin Lake

Overview

Pearrygin Lake State Park offers a quintessential Methow Valley experience centered around a sprawling freshwater lake. Surrounded by rolling sagebrush hills and distant mountain peaks, this expansive 1,200-acre park serves as a hub for outdoor recreation. Visitors often choose this destination for its spacious campsites and the rare combination of high-desert scenery paired with lush shoreline access. It is a well-maintained facility that balances the natural beauty of North Central Washington with modern conveniences for travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away just north of the charming town of Winthrop, the park provides a sense of seclusion without sacrificing proximity to local culture. The landscape is characterized by expansive lake views and dramatic seasonal changes, from vibrant spring wildflowers to golden autumn grasses. Its position in the Methow Valley makes it a prime basecamp for exploring the eastern slopes of the North Cascades. The surrounding terrain is open and airy, offering excellent stargazing opportunities away from major light pollution.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is split into different camping areas, catering to various RV sizes and needs. The East Campground is particularly popular for RVers as it features full-hookup sites including water, sewer, and electricity. On-site facilities include clean restrooms, heated showers, and a convenient dump station. For recreation within the park, travelers enjoy a designated swimming beach, multiple boat launches, and a sprawling pier. The park also maintains several miles of hiking trails that wind through the hills and along the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive takes you to the Western-themed town of Winthrop, where you can stroll along wooden boardwalks and visit local shops. Fishing enthusiasts will find the lake stocked with rainbow trout, while the nearby Methow River is famous for fly fishing. During the summer, the Rex Derr Trail offers a four-mile loop with panoramic views of the valley. Those looking for adventure can head west to North Cascades National Park for some of the state's most rugged alpine scenery.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families and groups looking for a classic summer lake vacation with plenty of water-based activities. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who prefer a resort-like atmosphere within a natural state park setting. Because of its big-rig friendly sites and full hookups, it caters well to those traveling in large motorhomes or fifth wheels. The lake is beautiful. However, we checked out early because the site was on a slope and we could not get level enough. We walked around the campgrounds and many had to use level blocks. We raised our rv 5 inches on the front tires and it still wasn't enough.

One of my favorite Washington State Parks. The staff are incredible. Every park has its own personality and the personality created by the staff at Pearrygin is warm and inviting. Lots of great activities including shopping, water sports and hiking close by.

You could not ask for a more beautiful place to camp with your family. The views and the park are absolutely stunning. This is of course because our wonderful park staff do such a wonderful job of maintaining this treasure. The staff here are not just friendly and professional, but sincerely seem to like helping people. The cam hosts were selling ice and picking up trash like a long lost memory from Saturday Evening Post! Thank you for maintaining this little slice of Americana!

Our campsite was spacious and private, with easy access to the lake for kayaking and swimming. The facilities were spotless, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed hiking the nearby trails and appreciated the serene environment. It's a fantastic spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. I can't wait to return! Highly recommend this park for a memorable getaway.
