Pease Creek Recreation Area

Overview

Pease Creek Recreation Area offers a quiet escape along the shores of Lake Francis Case. Situated on the Missouri River, this park is known for its rugged beauty and access to one of South Dakota's premier waterways. It provides a more intimate camping experience compared to larger state parks, making it a favorite for those seeking a connection with the outdoors. Visitors often come here for the serene environment and the chance to enjoy the water without the crowds.

Location & Surroundings

Located just south of Geddes, SD, the park is characterized by its wooded draws and steep bluffs that overlook the expansive reservoir. The geography creates a diverse landscape where wildlife is abundant, including deer and various bird species. The park sits on a high point above the river, offering panoramic views of the water. The surrounding area is largely agricultural and prairie land, reinforcing a sense of isolation and peacefulness that many RVers appreciate.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features a mix of electric and non-electric sites, catering to different styles of camping. While the park maintains a rustic charm, it includes several essential features for visitors:

  • A well-maintained boat ramp and dock for easy reservoir access.
  • Several scenic hiking trails that wind through the timber.
  • A playground and picnic shelter for family gatherings.

While the amenities are more rustic than a luxury resort, the park offers vault toilets and drinking water access to ensure a comfortable stay for overnight guests.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Boating and fishing are the primary draws, with Lake Francis Case being famous for its walleye and smallmouth bass. For those interested in local history and nature, the Fort Randall Dam and the historic chapel nearby are worth a visit. Additionally, the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive away, offering premier birdwatching opportunities. The town of Geddes provides a charming glimpse into small-town South Dakota life for those needing to restock on basic supplies.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers who prefer a natural setting over a commercial atmosphere. It is well-suited for families who enjoy hiking and water sports in a quiet environment. Because of its location, it serves as a great stop for travelers exploring the Missouri River corridor. Seems to be an older state park . Our camp spot was nice . There is no place really to fish unless you have a boat . Small beach area about a mile up the road . Didn't see any hiking trails . Nice place, just not much to do there .

A wonderful "gem" of a campground!!! Camp host,John is great! He takes good care of the area and always ready to chat and share a fishing story. Beautiful area for tent camping.

We recently discovered riding trails here and have gone twice now! We have not camped here before but I’m sure will by next summer. There’s about 6 miles of trails and they are well marked

What a great place to have your first camping experience! The bathrooms are cleaner than any other public bathrooms I have seen, and it is so peaceful down by the water! 10/10

We were alone the entire trip. Bath house was closed but, vault toilet was open and CLEAN. Two different water sources were available. Sites not cleared of snow, luckily for us not much snow to deal with at our site. Sites normal size back ins. Lots of wild life (deer, coyotes). Nice older trees surrounding the campground with new growths planted in the center of grounds. Children's play area center of grounds as well. 50,30 amp hook-ups with 2 110 plug ins as well. Cell phone signal down to a stumpy one bar, but we did get our phone calls and held connection. Solitude was worth priceless.
