Pelican RV Resort & Marina

Overview

Pelican RV Resort & Marina offers a classic Florida Keys experience, situated right on the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This resort captures the essence of island life with its stunning sunset views and immediate water access. Unlike busier inland parks, this destination focuses on the maritime lifestyle, providing a quiet retreat for those looking to immerse themselves in the coastal environment of Marathon. It functions as both a comfortable base camp and a scenic destination in its own right.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located at Mile Marker 59 in Marathon, placing guests in the heart of the Middle Keys. The property features a private marina that opens directly into the Florida Bay, making it a dream for boaters and kayakers. Surroundings consist of swaying palms and clear blue waters, with the gentle sea breeze providing a constant reminder of the tropical setting. Its central location allows for easy exploration of both the Upper and Lower Keys while maintaining a peaceful waterfront atmosphere.

Amenities & Park Features

Travelers will find well-maintained sites equipped with full hookups and gravel pads designed to accommodate various rig sizes. The resort is built to support an active outdoor lifestyle with several key features:

  • The on-site private boat ramp and slips allow for easy water access.
  • A 300-foot fishing pier provides a perfect spot for catching local species or watching the sunset.
  • Guests also enjoy access to a heated swimming pool, laundry facilities, and a community clubhouse.

The park is designed to facilitate both short visits and long-term stays with reliable utilities and professional management.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Marathon serves as an incredible hub for eco-tourism and marine education. Just a short drive away, the Dolphin Research Center and the Turtle Hospital offer unique opportunities to learn about local wildlife conservation. For those seeking a day at the beach, the white sands of Sombrero Beach are nearby, while the iconic Seven Mile Bridge provides a breathtaking backdrop for a sunset drive. Fishing and snorkeling are the primary pastimes here, with several coral reefs accessible just offshore.

Who This Park Is Best For

This resort is ideal for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want their vessel just steps away from their RV. It appeals strongly to couples and retirees seeking a quiet, scenic environment rather than a high-energy family park with constant programming. If your travel style involves waking up to the sound of water and spending your afternoons relaxing by the Gulf, Pelican RV Resort & Marina provides the perfect balance of utility and tropical charm for a memorable Florida Keys getaway.

Just completed a 4 month stay. Awesome experience. Great staff willing to help anytime. Park kept dang near spotless. Been coming here for five years now and it gets better every year. New furniture in Marina and it’s totally upgraded with fans, lights, new chairs and tables. One of the best sunsets in Marathon. Cant wait to come back next June.

We rented one of the little house for a week with the kids. Location is great, quiet place with a nice small pool. Laundry available on site but can get expensive. Loads are $2 and another $2 for the dryer. People working at the front desk are very nice and helpful. Only downside is the cleanliness. The place was VERY dirty. The dishes in the cabinets were dirty. The floor was sticky and I am pretty sure never been mopped. Hair everywhere. We even found old dirty socks and toys under beds and couches. Too bad because the location is great and the prices are good for the area.

My family has been coming to Sun since it was a family owned park. I was told new management took over and it shows. The bath houses were always down due to plumbing issues but were spotless when opened. Devin was always pleasant and accommodating. The housekeeper Tony always had a smile and asked if we needed anything everyday (the rooms were kept very clean). The girl at the front desk needs some trainings on how to be pleasant and polite, everytime we need something like change for the laundry she would roll her eyes and the office was always cluttered or closed. I was speaking with some other guests and they had the same issues with the front desk. Probably going to stay at Jolly Rodger next year. Front desk lady needs some trainings on how to talk to guests if she doesnt like dealing with people she may be in the wrong industry.

Stayed here for years when it was pelican resort. Sun bought it out and prices keep increasing in policy changing big corporations destroy everything that's good. Now to reserve a place I had to put half down, over $800, and after 14 days if something happens and you need to cancel you lose the entire deposit over $800! That's outrageous. Heartbreaking that my favorite place to stay I don't think we're going to stay anymore. Because of this corporation. Next door is still family owned and has much better policies and prices. Keep the corporations out of the keys. 💔

Very nice location! A few issues in the tiny house. Sink in kitchen barely ran. Light in bathroom went out and couldn't be fixed. Dresser drawer broke. But place is a little dated. For the price as things are expensive in the Keys I can deal with these issues. Devin, maintenance worker, was great. Always there if we needed him. Very respectful. He d make it in manager.

We stayed here in a 43ft fifth wheel and have a nice, spacious site. The seasonal campers we met were amazing, kind, fun people. The staff here are accommodating, kind, and hard working. Special shout out to the activities coordinator, Amanda! Wish she was here all the time, not just for the winter months. Mallory in the office helped us tremendously when our reservation had to be moved after we were in an accident headed down here. The waterfront isn’t anything special - some chairs out along the waters edge to watch sunset, a tiki hut with a table, a game of cornhole. It tends to get grassy and our kids only dared to attempt a swim one time for all of 10 minutes … the pool is a better, safer option and evidently they’re getting a new one put in next month (April 2025). No playground or anything but our kids have made do rollerblading and biking around, drawing with chalk, and finding coconuts to open up. The clubhouse is fun when things are going on but not much besides ping pong when activities aren’t happening. The laundry room has 6 machines that are $2 each and bathhouse is nice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but would love more for the kids - it’s just not the target demographic here. Our kids had a lemonade stand and one of the guests posted on the group Facebook and they sold out within 45 minutes - tons of people came out to support! The people are the best part.

We have been full time RV-ing around the country for 4 years and have been to some great RV parks. But this place has been absolutely THE BEST. It has an incredible vibe, super friendly people, & fun events (thanks Amanda & Will!!!). Everyone gets together by the water's edge for the sunsets and to exchanges stories from the day.

We had another outstanding trip to Sun Marathon! While the park is great, the people that work there make it even greater! Kudos to Amanda & Will for the extensive calendar of activities; to Devon, Anthony & Tommy for keeping the park running smooth! We are looking forward to some much needed upgrades to the bath house and laundry area. We will see you in 10 months!

We decided to come down and rent an RV for Thanksgiving. It was such a wonderful surprise that sun outdoors had a whole big Thanksgiving event. Their event planner was so wonderful, open, and friendly. The catered Thanksgiving dinner tasted like grandma made it. It felt live home. Thank you! The only improvement the park could use is a little more room to walk our pup. The other thing would be enforcing picking up poop from the dog area. Beautiful view of the water. Nice boat ramp & slips. We would stay again.
