Pepper Pod Campground
Overview
Pepper Pod Campground offers a straightforward and practical stay for those traveling through north-central Colorado. Located in the quiet town of Hudson, this park serves as a reliable roadside basecamp for travelers navigating the I-76 corridor. It captures a nostalgic, small-town atmosphere, providing a sense of security and ease that is often missing from larger, more commercialized resorts. The park prioritizes functional simplicity, making it a preferred choice for those who value convenience and a friendly, local vibe over elaborate luxury features.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just off Interstate 76, the campground provides exceptional accessibility for big rigs and travelers on long-distance journeys. Hudson is a rural community characterized by vast agricultural landscapes and wide-open skies, offering a peaceful alternative to the hustle of the Denver metro area. The surrounding area maintains a laid-back agricultural charm, allowing visitors to enjoy quiet evenings while remaining within a short drive of the front range's major urban centers. It is an ideal spot for those who want to experience the Colorado plains without being too far from modern necessities.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed with the modern RVer in mind, offering spacious sites that accommodate various rig sizes. Guests can expect essential utilities including water, sewer, and electrical service. On-site facilities provide the comforts of home while on the road:
- Full-hookup sites with 30 and 50-amp service.
- Clean restrooms and on-site laundry facilities.
- Convenient pull-through sites for larger trailers and motorhomes.
These features ensure that every traveler has what they need for a restful stay. One of the standout conveniences is the proximity to local dining, which provides a reliable meal option for those who prefer not to cook in their galley after a long day of driving.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While Hudson itself is quiet, it serves as a gateway to several unique Colorado destinations. Nature enthusiasts can visit the Barr Lake State Park, located just a short drive away, which is famous for its birdwatching opportunities and serene hiking trails. For those interested in local history and wildlife, the Wild Animal Sanctuary in nearby Keenesburg offers a chance to see rescued large carnivores in expansive habitats. Additionally, the vibrant shopping and cultural attractions of downtown Denver are easily accessible for a day trip, providing a perfect balance of rural peace and urban exploration.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an excellent match for long-haul travelers and seasonal visitors who need a reliable, no-frills place to rest along the highway. It is particularly well-suited for those who appreciate a quiet environment and the convenience of being close to the road without the noise levels found in larger city parks. Budget-conscious RVers and those with large rigs will find the layout and utility access to be quite favorable. It is a great fit for anyone seeking a friendly, small-town stopover that offers all the basic necessities for a comfortable night.

Its a very reasonable cost to stay here. The restaurant across the street is very good. Most spots are gravel pull-thru, grass is green, and bathrooms are clean. We got a water and electric site, but they have a dump station. The owner, Neal is a super nice guy, and charges very low rates, easy to work with. We did not need propane, but they have it.

Great overnight stop. Easy access to and from I-76. Super friendly and helpful owner and groundskeeper. Inexpensive. Hot showers. Level, gravel pull through sites. Nice restaurant within walking distance. Train tracks nearby but only heard them twice in the night. Slept like a baby!

Nice bathrooms, showers are free with campsite. Came in overnight without a reservation. The night dropbox states that you can leave credit card info or pay in the office in the morning. Next morning, the groundskeeper asked for a receipt while we were packing up. We told him we planned to pay with credit, to which he said the campground does not accept credit cards. Despite the credit option on the night drop form and on the dropbox instructions. Had to go to an ATM to get cash, which was very inconvenient.

I don't know if the waitresses have something going on or what the deal is. When the waitress brought me my ticket I gave her two $20 bills. The bill was $20.48. When I told her that I gave her two $20 bills for a ticket that was only $22 she brought back the cashier and the cashier said that I just gave her a $20 bill and a $5 bill. I don't know what kind of scam they're running at this place but if you pay them you better go up to the cash register and make sure that you're looking while they're working the register that they're not trying to Quick slip you on some money. They said that they could look at the videos tomorrow I live in Wyoming I'm supposed to wait here until tomorrow on $18? To me it's apparent they've got some kind of scam going so like I said buyer beware do not give the waitresses money go up to the register and pay for it yourself but keep a close eye on them this place will rip you off!!!!!!!

We planned to stop here for the night, but we arrived after hours and the office was closed. We considered just parking our little teardrop on the edge of the camp, next to the broken down old 4WD truck and abandoned pool, but after a check in the rest rooms and a drive through the park we decided to keep going. It looks like the owner is trying to make some improvements, but it's a pretty rough looking place. We did talk to one long term resident and he was very pleasant, and it is probably good for that, especially if you have your own amenities. If you are just passing through do not expect too much. Based on the high reviews we were quite disappointed at the looks of the place.
