Pere Marquette/Spring Lake

Overview

Pere Marquette/Spring Lake is a tranquil destination located within the expansive Pere Marquette State Forest. This State Forest Campground offers a rustic experience for travelers who want to disconnect from modern distractions and reconnect with the outdoors. Situated on the peaceful shores of Spring Lake, the park provides a quiet retreat surrounded by mature hardwoods and pines. It is an ideal spot for those seeking a natural camping environment rather than a busy commercial resort.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away near the village of Fife Lake, Michigan, the park is perfectly positioned for outdoor enthusiasts. The surrounding area is characterized by the rolling terrain of Northern Michigan, providing a scenic backdrop for every campsite. The proximity to Spring Lake means water is always within reach, while the larger Fife Lake and the Manistee River are just a short drive away, offering diverse landscapes for day trips and forest exploration.

Amenities & Park Features

As a rustic facility managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, visitors should prepare for a primitive stay. The park features:

  • Vault toilets and a hand pump for potable water.
  • Individual sites equipped with a fire ring and picnic table.
  • A small boat launch for non-motorized or electric motor boats.
There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups available, making it essential for RV travelers to arrive with full tanks and charged batteries.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. Hikers will appreciate the direct access to the North Country National Scenic Trail, which winds through the surrounding forest. Anglers can enjoy quiet mornings fishing for panfish and bass on the lake. Beyond the woods, the vibrant culture of Traverse City is roughly thirty minutes away, offering local breweries, seasonal festivals, and diverse dining options for a well-rounded trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is best suited for self-contained RVers and tent campers who prioritize privacy and nature over luxury amenities. It is a fantastic choice for those who enjoy paddling and hiking, as well as solo travelers looking for a quiet, budget-friendly escape. The lodge, cabins and staff were amazing. My son and I went on a full day trout trip with the knowledgable Casey as our guide. The whole trip was amazing, I will definitely be booking a cabin and Casey as our guide next year!

This is the quintessential Fishing Lodge! If you’re looking for entertainment and luxurious accommodations - this is not it. This is the perfect place to experience the natural surroundings of the historic Pere Marquette River. Our cabin had a kitchenette, small bathroom - was rustic, clean, and had everything we needed for a few nights stay. We experienced amazing fishing adventures with Wesley, catching King Salmon up to 20lbs. Wesley is a local and he knows his stuff! This is definitely an experience for the discerning fisherman who wants an authentic experience! * Bonus - the Orvis outfitter on site is super well equipped and the front desk staff is knowledgeable, kind and very helpful! I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

The rooms are simple and no-frills. Definitely not a five-star hotel; but they were clean and perfectly fine for a fishing trip. When you’re in fishing mode, it’s more about the water than the accommodations anyway. The staff at the lodge next door were friendly and knowledgeable, and our guide was excellent. The river is less than 100 yards away. Highly recommend.

The staff at the Pere Marquette River Lodge are friendly and helpful! They took their time to make sure I had what I needed for my trip to the Sweetwater Guide School in Montana. I highly recommend doing business with them for all your fly fishing needs.

I've gone here many times to stock up on flies and gear. The guides are absolutely amazing. Very helpful as I've gotten into fly fishing. Every time I go in, I've got a whole stock of questions to ask them and they are always more than happy to answer every question and help with every issue I've run into so far. The only fly shop I go to when I'm in Baldwin.

I had an experience ill never forget with Frank and the whole crew at the Lodge. I had Frank take us out and he was an amazing guide that taught me a bunch about river fishing. I'm typically a bass fisherman and this just opened my eyes to a whole new world of fishing. Frank was very patient with my buddy and I since we were rookies on the river and needed help often thru the day. I'm a paraplegic and in a wheelchair so you could imagine it wasn't his typical day on the river, however Frank took charge and took such good care of me, I was impressed. He kept us warm, fed, and entertained. We were able to go on this trip because of the guys at Legends Ranch down the road from the Lodge. Both are class act businesses and I am thankful for both! ***You Rock Frank***

Had a great time fishing with Frank and my Friend Carson. Frank was a very knowledgeable expert fishing guide. He's very proud of the river he fishes and taught me how to fly fish. Thanks again Frank for teaching me how to fly fish. Something I hope to teach my nephews.

We had such a lovely cabin stay at Pere Marquette River Lodge. We were greeted on arrival by a very friendly and helpful staff. Then went to our adorable cabin with a full kitchen. It was cozy and warm and just so cute! I was so impressed. Our guide, Jory, for our fishing trip was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, incredibly personable. He knew all the places to stop for my fiancee to catch Salmon. Which was a bucket list item for him! The lunch he prepared was delicious! We will definitely be back and next time I think we will do a week instead of a weekend.
