Petersburg Marina and Campgrounds

Overview

Petersburg Marina and Campgrounds offers a peaceful retreat on the southern shores of Leesville Lake. Known primarily for its exceptional fishing and boating access, this destination serves as a quiet escape for those looking to disconnect from the modern world. The park blends a traditional marina atmosphere with a rustic camping experience, making it a staple for outdoor enthusiasts visiting Carroll County who appreciate a slower pace of life and direct access to the water.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the scenic rolling hills of Carrollton, OH, the park overlooks the deep, cool waters of one of Ohio's most pristine lakes. This location is unique because the shoreline is largely surrounded by undeveloped land and thick forests, providing a serene woodland backdrop that feels entirely secluded. The winding roads and lush canopy of the surrounding countryside create a truly scenic drive for any RV traveler seeking natural beauty and quiet nights away from highway noise.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility caters specifically to water lovers with a full-service marina, offering pontoon rentals and fuel for a productive day on the lake. Campers can choose between various sites, including those equipped with electric hookups for smaller RVs and trailers. Essential facilities like a clean shower house, a bait and tackle shop, and individual picnic areas provide the necessary conveniences for a long weekend of relaxation and angling without unnecessary distractions or resort crowds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw here, as Leesville Lake is widely considered one of the premier Muskie lakes in the entire Midwest. Beyond the water, visitors can explore the charming nearby town of Carrollton to enjoy local diners and historic architecture. For those willing to drive a short distance, the public hiking trails and expanded recreational facilities at Atwood Lake Park offer additional ways to enjoy the Great Ohio outdoors during your stay.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for avid anglers and boaters who prioritize direct water access and a quiet, natural environment over flashy resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for families looking for a nostalgic lakeside camping trip or retirees seeking a peaceful spot to park their rig for a quiet season. If you value a natural, unhurried atmosphere and legendary fishing opportunities, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

Nice size campsites with picnic tables, clean, quiet, good electrical hookups. No shower facilities. Small playground, dogs allowed on leash. Pit toilets are clean and private. Hand sanitizer available. Nice lake for kayaking and fishing but swimming is not advised. We got bad cases of “swimmer’s itch” from swimming near the campsite dock which is caused by flatworm larvae in the water. Not serious but very annoying. If you do get wet, towel off or rinse off immediately to avoid this condition.

We love camping here, we’ve been seasonal campers for several years. But this is acceptable. We’ve asked several times if they would fix this dock, we’re told it’s only 10 years old. It doesn’t matter that it’s UNDER WATER. They have no sense of urgency to fix things, but are very quick to cash my check. I’d hate to see someone fall on this broken dock that they keep open for use, someone might end up on their payroll.

I'd lost my kayak registration & Tappan Marina told me I had to purchase another registration. I ended up speaking to a nice Leesville Lady who had no problem looking up my identification# & for free I was back out on the Lake. THANK YOU!

Very nice environment, people were all nice as well. Little strange if you want to fish on shore better off heading somewhere else. Besides that it's pretty nice

I went to visit family that camped for the weekend. Its peaceful and can camp right at the lake but people are camping onto of each other. The fire ring outside ur camper door isn't urs it's the neighboring campsites and urs is further away beside ur camper. Plus older seasonal campers complain until u move ur camper how they want even if it's already set up. Bathrooms are cleaner than most campsites and lakes...I was surprised.

Great place to spend a couple of days camping and kayaking on this quiet, family friendly, 10hp max lake. The campground manager, Mark, was extremely welcoming and helpful, and the seasonal residents were friendly and quiet. We pulled in late with our camper, without a reservation; it was already dark, and we couldn't easily identify open sites. One of the seasonal campers assisted us and offer to help in any way... thank you Russ! We ended up with a nice site. Sites offer electric only. The manager is working hard to bring this park up to date. There are lots of boat docks and pontoon boats to rent. Huge fish to be caught, like 40 lbs muskee! There is rumor of a monster in the lake; we couldn't find him. There is definitely work that needs to be done in the shower house and bathrooms, but that is the only negative that we could find. Make a reservation! There are limited spots. If you are tent camping choose site #9 on the lake. As for the kayaking: we paddled along the north shoreline out and back 10 miles on day 1. On day 2 we drove to the North Fork Marina and paddled the southern shoreline for another 10 miles. We loved all the fingers we explored on the north fork and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the south shore.

My parents found this place and brought my sister and I and the dog here to go camping when we were kids. The place still hasn’t changed. It’s a beautiful place to camp and escape the city life.

It's my all time favorite place to be. I have been going there for over 40 years. A great place to camp, relax and fish.
