Located just west of Loveland, Colorado, the area is characterized by rugged granite formations and lush stands of ponderosa pines. At an elevation of approximately 6,580 feet, the air is crisp and the views are expansive. Travelers arrive via scenic, winding roads that offer glimpses of the surrounding peaks, positioning the park as a gateway to the Rockies while remaining conveniently accessible from the main urban corridor of the Front Range.
Amenities & Park Features
The facilities at Pinewood Lake cater to those who prefer a natural camping experience over modern luxuries. The park features 27 sites, including several with electric hookups for RVers who need power, while other sites remain primitive. Visitors have access to essential features such as:
- Vault toilets and communal water access
- Individual fire rings and picnic tables
- Access to non-motorized boat ramps
While there is no dump station on-site, these services are available at nearby Carter Lake, keeping the local environment quiet and undisturbed.

Nice lake. A little crowded for paddleboarding and fishing but we had a great time. Would try to go back when its not as crowded.

First time visiting. We hiked for a couple of hours and plan to come back to picnic and fish. Buy a Larimer County parking pass online before you go.

This is the third time Ive visited this site. When we arrived I was pretty upset someone did not pick up their dogs feces. I still gave the site 4 stars because its a beautiful reservior and we ended up having a nice quite visit.

We love to hike with our kids here. There’s a great loop with nice views, but easy enough for toddlers or visitors who are still acclimating. Be aware the pay station is down by Carter lake and there isn’t one in the parking lot for the hike.

Really beautiful spot that’s super quiet at night. The campground is small but that’s a good thing. The trail around the lake is a great quick loop if you’re on a bike and even has some challenging technical sections on the western loop. The lake is stocked with fish and there are many great spots to cast off. Beware: most sites are on a decent incline so if you’re in a popup you’ll need some blocks.
