Pony Express RV Park

Overview

Pony Express RV Park provides a functional and conveniently located base for travelers exploring the wonders of the American West. Situated just minutes from the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, this facility prioritizes ease of access and essential comforts. It serves as a practical choice for those who want a reliable place to park their rig while spending the majority of their day exploring the surrounding wilderness and the famous geothermal features of the region.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the charming town of West Yellowstone, MT, the park is nestled in an area known for its high-altitude beauty and proximity to the world's first national park. The surrounding landscape is characterized by lodgepole pine forests and the rugged peaks of the Gallatin Range. Staying here means you are within walking distance or a short drive of the local downtown area, where you can find authentic western dining and unique gift shops, all while being a stone's throw from the park entrance.

Amenities & Park Features

The park focuses on the essentials that make an RV stay comfortable and stress-free. Travelers can expect full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. To help guests stay connected and clean after a day of hiking, the facility offers functional Wi-Fi and clean laundry facilities. The sites are designed to accommodate a variety of rig sizes, including both pull-through and back-in options, ensuring a smooth setup process for different types of travelers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, located less than a mile away. Visitors can easily reach iconic landmarks like Old Faithful or the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Closer to the park, the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center offers an up-close look at local wildlife, while the nearby Hebgen Lake provides opportunities for fishing and boating. In the winter months, the area transforms into a premier destination for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for active explorers who view their RV as a mobile headquarters rather than a destination itself. It is perfectly suited for families and retirees who want to minimize transit time to the national park's gates. If you value a no-frills, high-convenience location that puts you at the doorstep of Montana’s most famous natural wonders, this quiet and efficient park offers exactly what you need for a successful Yellowstone adventure.

After spending all day in the park and eating dinner we were exhausted and trying to find an open RV park at 10 pm. Pony Express were very accommodating and open with flat sights and full hook-ups. Also didn’t charge for late check out and reasonable $$ compared to other sites. Thank you for your hospitality 😊

We stayed here last month for one night for our trip through Yellowstone. Incredibly convenient location in town and mere minutes away from the west gate. Clean showers were included along with water, power, and sewer to our site at a very reasonable rate. Will definitely be choosing to stay here next time we come through.

Level sites accommodating Class C and below. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Walking distance of downtown. We used campsite as a hub to sleep as we explored the area. Easy access to west gate of Yellowstone National Park. Competitive rates.

RV sites! Competitive pricing and great spot. Your close to everything and yet it is quiet. The sites are level and good sized. Everything is clean and well maintained. The wifi is terrific, it works everywhere and is quite fast, well done 👍. The bathrooms and showers are as clean as they could be, nice.

Location. Pretty level. Very Walkable to town, bike trail, and the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. Good value. Watch your belongings in the very clean bathhouse. They could improve security with some exterior cameras, and actual doors rather than curtains on their shower stalls. Someone tried to steal pants from the shower stall. Some (very odd and unfriendly) occupants let others into the bathhouse. Not cool, and a security issue. The night we were there there was a domestic disturbance between two separate site occupants. We called the front desk, others (multiple others) called the cops. After that, things were quiet and peaceful. In any town location like this I would be more cognizant to keep things locked up and or put away out of sight. Note that check in is handled in the hotel on the main drag.

This RV park was great for our family in June of 2020. We called on our way back into West Yellowstone, not ready to be done with the park, but out of days at our campground. Brandin Iron/Pony express accommodated us immediately. They put us close to the shower building that we absolutely needed (we were in a popup), and even provided a 50 to 30 amp power adapter for us to borrow. We spent two comfortable nights. Yes, it is a parking lot with hookups, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The RV park was a perfect home base while we visited Yellowstone. The bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a city park across the street that was perfect for walking our dogs. We were not looking for amenities as we spent all day in YNP and GTNP and we were very pleased with this quiet area to sleep. Front desk staff were very helpful, as well.
