Located on the northern shores of Tanwax Lake, this destination offers a peaceful escape for families and outdoor enthusiasts looking to reconnect with nature. The resort manages to balance a rustic, wooded atmosphere with the modern conveniences required for a comfortable stay. Visitors are often treated to stunning views of Mount Rainier, which serves as a majestic backdrop to the daily activities on the water and within the park’s evergreen canopy.

Location & Surroundings

The resort is situated in the scenic town of Eatonville, Washington, serving as a gateway to the southern reaches of the Puget Sound region. The landscape is dominated by dense forests and freshwater lakes, providing a sense of seclusion while remaining accessible from major metropolitan areas. Its position on Tanwax Lake makes it a prime spot for water-based recreation, where the sound of wind through the Douglas firs and the gentle lapping of waves create a serene environment far removed from highway noise and urban congestion.

Guests have access to a variety of facilities designed to enhance the lakeside lifestyle. The park features full-hookup RV sites that cater to various rig sizes, ensuring a hassle-free setup for long-term stays or weekend getaways. On the water, the private boat launch and dock area are central hubs for activity, where visitors can enjoy fishing or take out a rental boat. Additional conveniences include:

  • Clean restroom and shower facilities
  • On-site laundry services
  • A well-stocked country store for essentials
  • Designated swimming area and playground

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The resort's proximity to Mount Rainier National Park makes it an ideal base camp for hikers and photographers wanting to explore the Nisqually entrance. Just a short drive away, visitors can experience Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, where native animals roam in natural habitats. For a touch of local history, the Pioneer Farm Museum in Eatonville offers interactive exhibits that bring the region’s past to life. Whether you are seeking high-altitude alpine trails or a quiet afternoon of trout and bass fishing on the lake, the area offers a diverse range of activities.

Who This Park Is Best For

Rainbow RV Resort is a perfect match for families and anglers who prioritize waterfront access and a traditional camping vibe. It appeals to those who enjoy a slower pace of life, where days are spent on the lake and evenings revolve around a campfire. It is also an excellent choice for Mount Rainier explorers who want a lower-elevation base with more amenities than a standard forest service site. #1 best place to rent a boat and fish with your kids. Its a close drive from the city but still feels like wilderness, and the fishing is amazing. We have never not caught a fish here. Everytime we experience a fish catch drought, we pack up the car and come here. The employees are well versed in all things Tanwax lake. I have never had a bad experience here. The food is good. The boats rentals beat anywhere else. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

The owners were very nice. The park is great if you go just for fishing, there is a nice dock with no dogs allowed. The spots are tight and there are no fire pits unless you rent one. Also no tables or grass in the spots. It was worth the price that we paid.

This place is absolutely freaking AMAZING!!! We will go back a thousand times. I 100% recommend everything. The milkshakes were so delicious and perfectly sized. The docks were clean and well taken care of. The rules were clearly stated for animals and fishing. Boat rental was easy. The BEST part.... The customer service was just like family.

Fantastic place and amazing people. You are feet from the lake and there is a view of Mount Rainier. The areas completely calm and peaceful. You can rent boating and fishing equipment for the family. It’s a perfect home base and is the closest to Mount Rainier, and wildlife. Everyone there was great and gave us advice on what to do and not because of the heat wave. All the hook ups worked perfectly. It’s close to waterfalls as well. We did the zoo, Mount Rainier, and various activities in the area. Everyone was very kind. We even lost a key for our hitch lock which they found and are mailing back to us. Great place to take the family and see the area. Very active fishing and a relaxing spot. Me and the family will be back again. Also me just to come for the fishing!

Came here for a fri-sat fishing trip & I was a little hesitant while reading some google reviews.. however it was a great stay & would come back again! We were the 1st tent campers for the season & the tent sites were great, clean bathrooms & very friendly staff. Easy access to fishing at the dock & easily was able to rent a boat to fish. all prices were very reasonable & affordable. All the rv campers were friendly as well as the great staff. family friendly & overall a great time. Was able to catch a few perch. 10/10

Very affordable (about $40 a night for an RV spot) but very much like a parking lot. No room to sit outside your RV, we didn't even have a picnic table in our area because it wouldn't fit. Absolutely NOWHERE to walk a dog or even take a walk with your kid.

Stayed at a tent site in October to get an early start for a Rainier hike. Reservation process was archaic. No online process so I emailed only to receive an email response for another email address that said to call. Gave payment over the phone and received no confirmation number, no email followup, no information (check in time etc.) - not even a "see you on Saturday." We got there and the place is alright. We received a tent site where we were not allowed to stake our tent or tie to trees. Doesn't feel great to pay $33 to not even be able to stake your tent. The tent area is a grassy steep hill with minimal trees next to the overflow parking lot. The bathroom was far from tent sites and not well maintained. Pay showers. A dirty curtain for privacy for the toilet (no door). Just lackluster throughout. Residents were all friendly and said hellos but the owners had many Trump flags at their site - that may not make some people feel welcomed here. We will not return.

Always a great experience here. Plenty of camping sites. 🏕 A huge dock to fish off of. 🎣 They have a great selection of tackle to purchase if needed along with snacks and drinks.
