Overview

Remy's Dog Park is a standout feature within the expansive Red Mountain Park in Birmingham, Alabama. While Red Mountain Park itself serves as a massive outdoor recreational hub, this specific dog park offers a dedicated six-acre area for off-leash play. It provides a unique opportunity for RV travelers to let their pets stretch their legs in a natural, forested setting that feels far removed from the typical cramped conditions of roadside rest stops.

Location & Surroundings

Located on the former site of iron ore mining operations, Red Mountain Park is a significant piece of Birmingham history. The area is heavily wooded, offering a picturesque mountainous landscape that provides shade and a refreshing break from urban travel. For RVers staying at nearby campgrounds, this location is easily accessible by vehicle, providing a quiet, scenic escape that feels like a hidden gem tucked right into the heart of the city.

Amenities & Park Features

The dog park is thoughtfully designed with separate sections to accommodate both small and large dogs, ensuring a safe experience for all visitors. The terrain is natural and rugged, featuring winding trails that allow dogs to explore and sniff to their heart's content. Visitors will appreciate the availability of water stations and basic maintenance facilities that keep the park clean and accessible for daily use throughout the year.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the dog park, Red Mountain Park offers over 15 miles of trails, including the popular Sky Trail for scenic views of the valley. Birmingham also hosts the Vulcan Park and Museum nearby, along with a vibrant downtown culinary scene that makes it easy to balance outdoor adventure with city exploration during your stay.

Who This Park Is Best For

Beautiful, will kept trails! All 3 of my kids under 9 enjoyed it. There were lots of maps and trail markers to find your way. Many picnic spots. One of the park employees told us the adventure stuff had to close during covid and fell into disrepair. Even though there were many cars it didn't feel crowded. It was a perfect nature getaway. We'll be back for sure!

Our furbabies loved it and we did too! Clean and peaceful. Several groups were hiking. We'll hike next time.

What a beautiful area lots of people there, but you still seem to be lost in the woods by yourself.

Loved the sensory trail and how inclusive it is (was a scout's project). Visited one of the mine shafts and it was such a nice cool breeze after having walked for awhile. There was some reading on the history, too.

The trails were marked pretty well. They have good spots with info maps. Kinda wish the rope walks were open, we walked to mine 13 and was pleasantly surprised as to how cool the area was, was a nice break from the 90 degree temp.

Red mountains awesome the dog parks even better unless people with their dogs are there with their leashes on in a dog park and don't want your dogs to play with them because they think they're humans

We take our two dogs here every weekend for a few hours to play fetch and let them run around. We love how there is a small dog area, a large dog area and a special needs area. Once of ours is unsure of bigger dogs and the small dog area gives her the space she needs to feel comfortable. Owners are usually good about picking up after their dogs, too. Every owner I have met there, and it's been a lot, has been welcoming. We will see you this weekend!
