Renfro Valley KOA

Overview

Renfro Valley KOA Holiday serves as a peaceful gateway to Kentucky's famous country music heritage. Situated in the foothills of the Cumberland Valley, this park offers a mix of open and wooded sites. It is well-known for its welcoming atmosphere and status as a Holiday level KOA, meaning it provides more amenities than a basic journey site. Whether you are arriving for a weekend concert or passing through on I-75, the park provides a reliable home base with spacious pull-thru sites and a range of accommodation options.

Location & Surroundings

The park is conveniently located just off the interstate in Mt Vernon, making it highly accessible for large rigs. Despite its proximity to the highway, the property maintains a quiet, rural feel surrounded by lush Kentucky greenery. It sits adjacent to the historic Renfro Valley Music Center, allowing guests to enjoy local entertainment without a long drive. The rolling hills and nearby hardwood forests provide a scenic backdrop for those looking to relax in a natural environment while remaining close to modern essentials.

Amenities & Park Features

Campers have access to a variety of modern conveniences designed for comfort. The park features full-hookup RV sites that can accommodate big rigs, alongside cozy cabins and tent areas. On-site recreation includes a seasonal swimming pool, a miniature golf course, and a stocked fishing pond for catch-and-release fun. For those traveling with pets, the dedicated KampK9 dog park offers a safe space for furry friends to run, while the well-maintained laundry facilities and clean bathhouses add to the overall ease of your stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the Renfro Valley Music Center, legendary for its live country and bluegrass performances. Beyond the music, outdoor enthusiasts can explore the nearby Daniel Boone National Forest, which offers miles of hiking and biking trails. The city of Berea, known as the Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky, is just a short drive away, offering unique galleries and artisan workshops. History buffs will also appreciate the local museums and historical sites that dot the Rockcastle County landscape.

Who This Park Is Best For

This KOA is an ideal match for country music fans looking to stay near the historic theaters of Renfro Valley. It is also a perfect choice for families seeking a kid-friendly environment with plenty of on-site activities to keep everyone entertained throughout their visit. Because of its location near I-75, it serves as an excellent mid-journey stopover for travelers moving between the Midwest and the South. Its balance of entertainment and natural beauty makes it a versatile destination for any RVer.

Me and Cooper wanted to change RV parks. We didn't have to go far. The cabin was brand new almost and the lady was super nice. She brought a blanket for Cooper my dog. And a free complimentary pizza. It was cold but we were warm. The next day we went around for a walk a bout. We played in a dog pen that was made out to look like a pool table and soccer balls painted like pool balls. Cooper had a great time chewing at the balls and pouncing on them when I kicked one. We played putt putt golf and when I hit the ball far off Cooper would fetch it. He would run up and put the ball in his mouth and drop it in the hole. We said hello to the attendant and went back to our cabin.

We Are The Observers

We had a great experience at Renfro Valley KOA. Site#2. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. We were traveling from Ohio and got caught in the snowstorm, which turned our planned one-night stay into two nights. Throughout our stay, they constantly checked on us to make sure we were okay and even offered help, which we truly appreciated. They also have a super friendly dog that I absolutely loved petting (a big plus for dog lovers 🐶). The women’s showers were clean and comfortable, and overall the campground felt welcoming and well cared for. We were very satisfied with our stay and are grateful for how well we were treated during an unexpected situation.

We stopped for a overnight stay heading south in November. There is a steep hill to climb. We arrived after dark. It was unstaffed when we arrived, not on office said closed on Tuesdays. We made the reservation the same day on line. We saw an envelope on a clipboard with someone’s name but not ours. We looked at the big campground map and picked a spot that matched our reservation. We managed to find that spot in the dark. Over all it looked like a nice campground to stay during the summer season. We took some pictures in the morning. They had a camp kitchen that was very nice. The Rest rooms were clean but some out of order stuff in the men’s. They had hot water for showers. We would probably stay again on the way south.

Our 5-star rating isn't a gift, it was earned. I managed 5 campgrounds, and 8 day use areas for several years. The facilities at the Renfro Valley KOA were very clean as were the campsites. Staff were top notch, friendly and helpful. Campground is family oriented with plenty of activities. We look forward to our next stay.

Staff is all amazing! The gift shop has a little of everything you will need and more! They have a well maintained walking trail, lots of activities in the playground area, very large dog run in the back field and laundry available. (Bounce pad is no longer usable / Cornhole bags missing) The laundry is very reasonably priced! Great place for anyone to spend a few nights or even a extended stay. The only cons are the rates are significantly higher than other campgrounds in the area. Some things are in need of repairs that seems to have been needed for a while.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this KOA. Park and restrooms very clean. Great wifi. Management and staff very helpful and friendly, like family. Living in Northern Indiana, staying 6 nights at this KY "home" was very comfortable, weather was perfect and also enjoyed the local, restaurants, museums, battlefields and flea markets. Will keep this KOA in mind for future stay.

Not sure how this place has any bad reviews! This is one of the best camping trips I've ever had. And definitely in my top 5 favorite places to stay. Usually I start off with the negatives, but to tell you the truth, I really don't have anything negative to say, but there are some things that do need to be updated. I'm talking about small things. The balls by the play area (soccer pool) and one of the trails (fallen down tree). Other than that, I can't seem to find anything else negative. Staff was ever friendly, and someone in a review said, ".....trash was everywhere...." We didn't see hardly any trash. There are cats; I met four of them, but they didn't attack me. They did hiss to let me know they were scared of me, but all they wanted was food. I will definitely be back in the future! 🏕️💯🤩 P.S. Went to visit my family out in the woods, but they weren't home. (Couldn't find them.) 😆

Old campground that needs updates. Sites very unlevel. Low water pressure. The laundry room looked nice we didn’t use. The pool was nice. The kids in our group enjoyed the playground even with jump pad busted. Two families were side beside sharing a pedestal. When we got there surge protector stated that there was something wrong with electric. Someone came to look at it and stated “we don’t usually rent these spots they don’t work right”. He said it was fixed and their surge protector was not working properly. Lasted overnight and next day they were getting shocked again. Someone else came and fixed it ( no problem with their surge protector) wiring was old and was replaced. We payed for a concrete patio with 50 amp service. We were given a site with a pet pen (we didn’t pay for) because they said it was the only 50 amp available. The patio was nice very large with several chairs and patio set, large fire pit, but site so unlevel and narrow we had a hard time putting our steps down (it was a tripping hazard). Getting level was a nightmare!!!

The KOA is showing it's age, pull through sites need pad upgrading. The entrance and exit roads have a very steep grade but are in excellent condition. Water and electrical connections in good order. Sewer connections can be problematic, do to their location, positioning and the height for some some RVs. This is a problem at many campgrounds, not a negative of Renfro as you can't accommodate every make of RV. We would stay here again.

This park is fine for overnight stays. The ground is mostly gravel with much of the paved areas needing replacement. It's lacking the paving, patios, and fencing of the fancier KOA parks. We just need a clean safe place to park overnight and this fit our needs. We paid $60 for 1 night and that was a good value.
