River Run Canoe & Campground
Overview
River Run Canoe & Campground offers a classic Maine experience centered around the iconic Saco River. This is more than just a place to park your rig; it is a gateway to one of the region's most popular recreational waterways. The park provides a rustic and communal atmosphere where the focus remains on nature and water-based activities. It serves as a basecamp for those looking to unplug and enjoy the gentle current of the river right from their doorstep while enjoying the serene North Woods environment.
Location & Surroundings
Located in the quiet town of Brownfield, the park is nestled along the upper Saco River, known for its crystal-clear water and sandy beaches. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense forests and the rolling foothills of the White Mountains. This location offers a peaceful escape from the busier coastal regions of Maine, providing a deep sense of immersion in nature. Travelers will find the environment perfect for unwinding under a canopy of trees while listening to the rhythmic flow of the water.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is well-equipped for RVers seeking essential comforts alongside natural beauty. They offer sites with water and electric hookups, accommodating various rig sizes in a woodland setting. One of the primary draws is the on-site canoe and kayak rental service, which includes convenient shuttle transportation to popular launch points along the river. Visitors also have access to clean bathhouses and fire rings for evening gatherings. The park’s layout specifically prioritizes easy access to the riverbank for all guests.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the river, the area is rich with outdoor opportunities. Guests are a short drive from the White Mountain National Forest, where hiking trails and scenic overlooks abound. The nearby town of Fryeburg offers local charm and is home to the famous Fryeburg Fair in the autumn months. For those interested in local history or shopping, North Conway, New Hampshire, is within easy reach, offering tax-free shopping and a variety of dining options for a convenient day trip away from the campsite.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for paddling enthusiasts and families who want to spend their days floating on the water. It caters to those who prefer a scenic, rustic environment over a high-end resort feel. If your travel style involves gathering around a campfire after a long day of tubing or kayaking, River Run provides the perfect backdrop. It is particularly suited for RVers who enjoy the simplicity of nature and want direct access to some of the best river recreation in Maine.

Went for the first time this past weekend and we weren’t disappointed. Large sites with plenty of space, we had a beautiful spot right on the river. They delivered fire wood right to us, which was super convenient. It was also cheap for a good amount. It was very peaceful, we will most definitely be returning.

Highly recommend River Run. The sites are large and private. We stayed at one of the river front sites and had our own access points to the river which was great! The bathhouse was pristine and being able to take a warm shower at the end of the day was great. We also liked having laundry available so that we could wash all the bedding while packing up our site on the last day. Fire wood and ice available for purchase which was very reasonably priced. We rented a canoe and did a day trip. The shuttle service was very convenient. This family run camp ground is overall a great experience and we plan to return next year.

Been coming from CT once a year for 12 years. We have 6 people call all day repeatedly on New Year’s Day to get our site booked for July!

My daughter and I just stayed here and will not return. When I made reservations and stayed 2 people ok, yes, never mention of extra charge. They charge PER PERSON!!! So family of 5 would be $125/night! Ridiculous There are no amenities, showers are paid showers so bring lots of quarters! Firewood we got was green so didn’t burn so no fire! We were given a “new” site, never been used. All sand so difficult to secure anything down and talk about a slope! Not a flat even spot on entire site! Then let’s not to forget the extremely loud noise from a group on other side of tree line! Music was so insanely loud we couldn’t hear our own conversation. Tried to call office to complain but got voice mail. Music stopped finally then they proceeded to yell until 1am non stop. Adults and kids! They parked facing our site and had headlights shining into tents until same time! Sent email at 1am to complain and stated most places have quiet time at 10pm. Not here. They obviously don’t care about customers only their bottom dollar! Sad. Do not recommend this place at all unless u want to over pay for zero vs a campground with amenities and free showers

A lovely campground to stay at. I've stayed two times now and can't wait to stay again! The bath house is nice and clean. There is even on site laundry! Stop by!
