River View Campground
Overview
River View Campground offers a peaceful retreat nestled along the scenic Straight River in Southern Minnesota. This family-owned destination provides a blend of shaded, wooded sites and open grassy areas, creating a classic camping atmosphere. Whether you are passing through on the I-35 corridor or looking for a long-term seasonal getaway, the park emphasizes a tranquil environment where guests can reconnect with nature without sacrificing modern conveniences. The property is designed to provide a quiet sanctuary away from the hustle of daily life while maintaining easy access to the local community.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on the northern edge of Owatonna, the park is defined by its prime riverfront location and an abundance of mature hardwood trees. The Straight River flows directly adjacent to the property, offering gentle water views and a cooling breeze during the summer months. Despite its convenient proximity to the city’s resources and shopping districts, the heavy timber surrounding the campsites provides a significant buffer from the outside world, making it feel like a secluded woodland escape in the heart of Steele County.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is well-equipped for various rig sizes, offering spacious full hookup sites alongside dedicated primitive tent areas for those seeking a more rustic stay. Travelers will find essential facilities including a clean shower house, modern laundry services, and a convenient dump station. For recreation, the park features several amenities to keep guests active:
- A large central playground for children to enjoy.
- Sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits for friendly competition.
- Easy river access for shore fishing and wildlife viewing.
The layout is designed to encourage outdoor living, with fire rings and picnic tables provided at every site to enhance the traditional camping experience.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Visitors are just a short drive from local highlights such as the Village of Yesteryear, where history comes to life through preserved pioneer buildings and local artifacts. Nature lovers can explore the extensive trails and birdwatching opportunities at Rice Lake State Park or visit the Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo. For those looking to shop, the massive Cabela’s retail showroom is a legendary local landmark, while Owatonna's historic downtown area offers stunning architecture and a variety of local dining options for an afternoon excursion.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an ideal choice for family vacationers who appreciate a traditional camping experience with plenty of space for children to explore safely. It also serves as a perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts looking to fish the Straight River or explore the regional biking and hiking systems. Because of its easy access to the interstate, it remains a top pick for RVers seeking a quiet, high-quality stopover that offers more natural beauty and character than a standard roadside parking lot.

This RV Park is close to interstate highway 35 and our space was in a section that was the closest, other locations maybe not so loud. There are many seasonal or long-term residents but enough spaces for short term stays. The electrical and water connection worked well at the site, no sewer connection but a dump station is available near the exit. Many large dogs were present and seemed well contained but they were barking a lot without intervention. No information was provided regarding Wi Fi Network or location of restrooms and shower facilities or if laundry facilities were available. A single piece of paper with map and information would have been helpful.

There are no "rooms," its a BEAUTIFUL campground with a very pool, mini golf course, playground, lounge room with books and games with a store attached. They also offer art classes, kid activities, wagon rides and fri/sat bingo. Some of the camp sites are along a river where you can wade, have kids play in or even catch some crayfish. They also offer a bathhouse that has toilets and showers. There also is laundry room on-site. The staff is AMAZING, helpful, fun, assist you with anything you need in a timely manner.

Great little campground just outside Owatonna and minutes from shopping, farmers market and mountain biking trails. We always stay here 1-2 times a season. Wayne and Rebecca are always so gracious and accommodating. Pool is well taken care of as well as the rest of the campground. Well done!

There's no way you cold give this place a low mark. The folks who own this site treat you like old friends/family from the moment you check in! The site is very beautiful and laid out well. We had everything we needed and plan to return in the future for certain! Rebecca and Wayne are some of the nicest folks you could hope to meet while on the road! Book a site here, get settled in, and enjoy life! Our next trip down from Alaska will include a longer stay at the River View Campsite!

Location is convenient but the partying is rampant. Kids running everywhere after dark without lights on their bikes, they are difficult to see. Camped here on "Halloween weekend" August 11. Brought our 4 yo grandson for his first camping trip. Very disappointing to have the owner of the campground approach us saying there were complaints about our GSD barking and scaring kids. The dog was on a lead, unable to reach anyone outside of the site. IMO children should be taught not to think they can pet or approach all animals. When we camped here last year in July we had a good time. This will be our last time camping at Riverview in Owatonna.

We really enjoyed our stay at Riverview Campground! Very kid friendly! They do activities for them everyday during the weekends! Nice size lots which we need for our 48-ft toy hauler. Amazing owners and amazing location right off 35W & Hwy14! We already booked for another weekend this summer! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was another nice RV park to add to our list. Stayed here for a week of baseball and was a great central location for everywhere we needed to be. Spots are spacious and has all the necessary hookups. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and respectful. Bathrooms are nice but we're a little cold as it was a chilly weekend. You will notice a sulfur smell in the bathroom, assuming it's well water, but shower gets nice and hot. Nice stay overall. Would definitely stay here again.
