Rodman Campground

Overview

Rodman Campground serves as a peaceful gateway to the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. Managed by the Florida State Parks system, this destination offers travelers a quiet escape into the heart of Florida's natural landscapes. The atmosphere is distinctly serene, characterized by moss-draped oaks and a slower pace of life. It is widely recognized for its proximity to one of the most famous freshwater fisheries in the southeastern United States, providing a rustic retreat for outdoor enthusiasts.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside of Palatka, FL, the campground is tucked away near the Rodman Reservoir and the northern edge of the Ocala National Forest. The surrounding geography is defined by sprawling wetlands and dense hardwood hammocks. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a lush environment that provides a classic Old Florida aesthetic. This location serves as a critical wildlife corridor, making it a prime spot for observing native species like ospreys and bald eagles in their natural habitat.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is divided into two distinct sections to accommodate different camping needs. Most sites feature level paved pads, which are a major convenience for larger motorhomes and trailers. Notable park features include:

  • Full hookup sites with sewer available in Phase II
  • Water and 50-amp electric service in Phase I
  • Clean bathhouse facilities with hot showers and laundry access

On-site facilities also include a dump station, picnic pavilions, and fire rings, ensuring a comfortable and functional stay for those on the road for extended periods.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, specifically world-class trophy bass fishing on the reservoir. Anglers flock to the nearby boat ramps to explore the stump-filled waters known for record-breaking catches. For those on land, the park provides access to extensive multi-use trails that wind through the greenway for miles. Birdwatchers should bring their binoculars, as the area is a top birding destination for spotting various wading birds and migratory species along the reservoir shoreline.

Who This Park Is Best For

Rodman Campground is ideal for nature enthusiasts and anglers who prioritize quiet surroundings and proximity to the water. Because it offers modern conveniences like 50-amp service and sewer in certain loops, it is an excellent choice for full-time RVers seeking a basecamp in North Central Florida. If you enjoy secluded camping without sacrificing the comfort of a solid pad and reliable utility hookups, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

I consider this place a HIDDEN GEM! I pay 12$ (before taxes and fees)for a non electric sight but has showers and toilets and washer and dryers. $3.00 a load. They also have electric sites at 22 and rv sites. Right on water. Beautiful sunset and stars at night time. Peaceful. Electric gate with code at night time. 10-15 min from everything in town. Love this place!

Can't comment on rooms, as it is a campground. Primative sites are incredible. Camper sites nice too. Power water, no waste. There is a dump site when you pull in to campground.

I love this place! The campsite and the views were amazing. The restrooms were clean and stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. Each campsite had power outlets, water, and access to coin-operated washers and dryers. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Beautiful camping area. Out of the way and quiet. Boat ramp to access the St. John's River and Cross Florida Canal. Camp spots available on the canal, very shady spots everywhere. Very nice bath/shower houses that are quite clean. Friendly staff. Easy drive to Palatka (try Corky Bell for food and drink on the water front). Recommended!

My camping experience here was great. People go around with Firewood, and the gatehouse woman is nice. Site 19 was a good site, perfect to back in your vehicle. The restrooms are only one man, one woman, with large traffic from the boat ramp. Close to Palatka, where Ravine Gardens State Park is. 3 hours from South Lakeland.

Location is perfect for accessing all hiking areas and OHV trails the forest has to offer. While providing remote and secluded camping sites. With a great view of the night sky.

This is literally in the middle of no where!!! If you are into hiking, kayaking, fishing and visiting the local springs then this is the place for you!!! It's a great RV park with spacious parking areas. They have all the necessary hook ups for your RV. The place is kept neat and clean. The best park about the place is the peace and quiet. This is what my wife and i truly came to enjoy and we did. Break out your hiking boots, inflate your water gear and have fun!!!

My dog and I had a great time here! It's very secluded and quiet! There's plenty of tent sites as well as RV spots. The staff is all very nice and they keep the place very clean. I arrived on a Tuesday so there were very few people there and I could pick just about anywhere I wanted to camp. The only negative I can state about this place is that it's so secluded that I didn't have phone service, but that's definitely not the fault of rodman campground. And who needs a phone anyway while you're camping? Turn off your phone and come here! I would definitely camp here again!

Great spot to primitive camp, there’s a section of the state park that’s just for tents, so it’s nice not having to be around RVs. The campsite was clean, the grass as well cut, there’s even a hook to hang your stuff so bears don’t eat it. There’s no fishing in the park, but there’s a dam about a half mile down the road that you can do all of your fishing at. There’s a boat ramp on property, so definitely wanna bring the paddle boards next time.
