Sagadahoc Bay Campground

Overview

Sagadahoc Bay Campground offers a quintessential coastal Maine experience located at the very southern tip of Georgetown Island. This family-owned destination provides a peaceful retreat where the lush forest meets the salt air of the Atlantic Ocean. Unlike busy resort-style parks, this location emphasizes the natural beauty of the Midcoast region, offering campers a front-row seat to the dramatic changes of the Maine tides and the soothing, rhythmic sounds of the ocean surf.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on a unique peninsula surrounded by the waters of Sagadahoc Bay. The landscape is characterized by rugged shorelines, dense pine groves, and expansive tidal flats that reveal themselves twice daily. This remote setting ensures a quiet atmosphere far from highway noise, though the winding roads leading to the park require careful navigation for larger rigs. The surrounding area remains largely undeveloped, preserving the authentic maritime charm of the Maine coast.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides essential modern comforts to ensure a pleasant stay in the Maine wilderness. Guests can choose from a variety of site types designed to accommodate different camping styles. Key features include:

  • Full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp service for modern convenience.
  • Direct access to the bay for recreational clamming and beachcombing activities.
  • On-site rentals for kayaks and canoes to explore the scenic coastline.

Additionally, the campground offers a clean bathhouse with hot showers and a community atmosphere that encourages quiet evening campfires under the dark Maine skies.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits just a short drive away at Reid State Park, known for its rare sandy beaches, lagoons, and rocky outcrops that define the local shoreline. History enthusiasts should visit the Maine Maritime Museum in nearby Bath to learn about the region’s long and storied shipbuilding heritage. For a true taste of Maine, the Five Islands Lobster Co. is a local staple offering fresh seafood with stunning views of the busy harbor. Boating and birdwatching are also popular activities for visitors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for nature enthusiasts and RVers who prefer scenic tranquility over high-energy resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for birdwatchers and photographers who want to capture the local wildlife and changing coastal light. Those who enjoy active outdoor exploration, such as kayaking or beachcombing, will find the tidal environment endlessly fascinating. It is best suited for travelers looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in a slower, more deliberate pace of life.

This campground has some great view sites of the ocean, however that's all. The location is way out on a point 11mi from any major highway, so going out to dinner is at least a 25mi round trip into Bath. The campground dirt roads are terrible, filled with pothole and rocks in the dirt. They need to invest in gravel topping for their roads, but it appears no money has been spent to keep the campground in good shape. We'll never return here. If you're passionate about clamming this is might be a good place to camp, but we're not into that.

I almost don't want to leave a review because I'd like to keep this place secret. Such a fabulous location and the sites are all remarkably beautiful. Loved the owners. Very friendly and accomodating. But the real treasure was the clam digging. My wife has always wanted to do this and it was whole family fun. For a forty dollar permit we dug over ten bounds of clams some almost as big as my hand! And they were all incredibly sweet and delicious. Thank you for this truly wonderful campground.

This was our second time staying at Sagadahoc Bay Campground, and once again, the views were absolutely amazing! This visit was extra special since we had a waterfront site, and waking up to that ocean view was incredible. Check-in was smooth and easy, and the woman who greeted us was so friendly and welcoming. The bathhouses are about what you’d expect for a traditional campground—nothing fancy, a little older, but functional. The only real downside was the mosquitoes. They were overwhelming to the point that it really impacted our experience. We noticed some standing water at the site next to ours, which may have contributed. We came prepared with bug spray, but honestly, we would have needed more bug nets or screen shelters to make it comfortable. In the end, the bugs were so bad that we decided to leave a night early. Overall, the location and views are unbeatable, and we’ve enjoyed this campground before. If you plan to stay, definitely bring plenty of bug protection—more than you think you’ll need—and consider checking what the bug conditions are like for the time of year you’re visiting.

What a relaxing vacation spot! Beautiful views, and convenient access to the bay. The friendly staff made the check in process stress free. If you’re looking for a low key campground without all the hustle and bustle this is the place for you. We enjoyed leaving our phones behind and exploring the flats at low tide and even tried our hand at clamming, what fun! The other campers who return year after year were super friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

If you're a no-frills tent camper that loves being in nature, this is a hidden gem. The tent sites are spacious and set far enough back from each other that you get privacy. The bathrooms and shower were suitable. The owner is lovely and has heaps of information for visitors. There are also calm rakes for rent. There's a small beach with some rocks on site that are great for fishing. I'll be back again next year.

Such a lovely place. Right on a cove with low and high tide. A gorgeous tide beach to walk forever, beware of the fog. The fog bank was beautiful. Sites were level and tight but plenty of privacy. All campers were very friendly. The woman that checked us in was very friendly. They sold ice, wood and clam digging licences. Great place. Dog friendly, lots for doggies to do.

We stayed for the second time here and we had an absolute blast. This time we had an ocean view site and it was incredibly beautiful to wake up to the sunrise over the water. We love it here. I wish I could live here to be honest with you. The ocean / “beach” is one of the most amazing things you can see. The owners are such kind people and we love chatting with them. The land is such a quiet and peaceful place. We will definitely be back!!!!

Went camping through the weekend, prices were affordable, the campgrounds and woods were clean. The owner was very kind and took the time to explain the campground, the beach, and everything we could do around. The sites were large enough to fit 2 cars and still 3 tents with the picnic table and an Easy-Up. The only complaint I had over the stay was the bathhouses not having any ventilation, it made them hot, sticky, and a little smelly. But its camping, so I expected that. The internet was surprisingly good in the main areas of camp, no service in the campgrounds of course, but its camping, not an Air B&B or hotel. So again, didn't expect wifi at all, and the fact it had some was a pleasant surprise. Kayak rental was also available and was cheap (20 Kayak and 30 Tandem)! Overall the experience was great, drove 3 hours from NH and was not disappointed. Very clean, quiet, and a friendly environment. Much love 🫶

Nice region, owners are nice and all. Campsites are ok, some are smaller than others. Little beach and water front was nice. The very big down point is the bath houses (shower, bathroom). They have not been cleaned throughout our stay and they most likely had not been cleaned for a while. Hand paper distributors did not work, mold on the shower curtains and in the showers themselves. Would not be a repeat for us.

Our third year here, but first time in the cabin; it was fantastic! Such a magical spot on the ocean. We explored the forts in nearby Phippsburg during the foggy morning and walked forever and found crabs on the mudflats when the fog lifted. The cabin was perfect. We were able to cook meals, have a fire outside and coffee on the deck. Will definitely be back!
