Saint Croix Bluffs

Overview

Saint Croix Bluffs Regional Park offers a peaceful retreat along the scenic St. Croix River, spanning over 500 acres of diverse landscape. Managed by Washington County, this park combines natural beauty with essential comforts for RVers seeking a quiet escape. It provides a spacious, wooded environment that feels far removed from the city bustle while remaining conveniently accessible to the Twin Cities metro area for easy day trips. Whether you are passing through or staying for a week, the park offers a deep connection to the Minnesota wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Hastings, Minnesota, the park is perched on high limestone bluffs overlooking the water. The landscape features rolling hills, lush restored prairies, and dense hardwood forests that change beautifully with the seasons. Travelers will appreciate the sweeping views of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, which marks the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. This protected corridor ensures that the surroundings remain pristine, providing a quiet atmosphere free from heavy industrial noise or bright city lights.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground includes well-spaced electric RV sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options available. While sites are not full-hookup, a convenient dump station and potable water stations are located within the park for easy access. Guests have access to modern restrooms and private showers, a large playground for children, and a paved boat launch for direct river access. The park also features large group picnic shelters and dedicated fire rings at each site, making it easy to enjoy traditional campfire evenings under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy miles of wooded hiking and cross-country ski trails that wind through the park boundaries. The river itself is a major draw for fishing, boating, and kayaking along the quiet shorelines. Just a short drive away, you can explore the charming downtown of historic Hastings with its unique local shops and cafes. Additionally, the park is located near Afton State Park, offering even more rugged terrain and scenic overlooks for those who want to spend their days exploring the valley.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is ideal for travelers seeking a nature-focused experience rather than a commercial resort atmosphere. It is a perfect fit for families looking for space to explore and boaters wanting direct access to the St. Croix riverfront. It also serves as an excellent basecamp for RVers who prefer regional parks and want to visit Minneapolis or St. Paul during the day while returning to a quiet, forested setting at night. If you value privacy, trees, and river views over luxury amenities, this park will suit your travel style.

This review is for the campground only. We pulled up after checking site for availability. First question was do we have a pet. I said yes. DOGS are NOT allowed. What? We have been to campgrounds around the country and have never been turned down because of our dog. No wonder they had plenty of openings. Tax money supported place doesn’t allow dog. Sad.

I have only used the boat landing at this park to access the St. Croix River. Very nice landing! Three launch ramps, nice dock to tie up to, plenty of parking for truck and trailer or single cars if you are having people meet you. The launch is in a back channel so you aren’t fighting the current of the river when using the launch. Excellent way to access the St. Croix.

Very nice park. Pull through slots for our RV with full hook ups. Lots to do -- hiking, biking, walking too. On the weekends is a 2-night minimum. Price was good, but there was an addition $7 per night per vehicle in park fees. Firewood was close by and bought on the honor system.

Highly impressed with the new playground. Large oak trees provide shade even during the high sun times of the day. Great for littles and has obstacle course options that hold the attention for older kids. 50 yard walk from parking lot. Love hearing the birds and exploring the bugs all around as we played.

This park has less kids stuff than most, but it makes for a more quiet experience with less kids and dogs. Bathrooms are clean, trails are nice for both the biking and walking.

Fantastic park with great parking spaces and great restrooms and wonderful playground equipment for kids. Beach access and boat launch are busy. Many people fishing . Another camping trip this past weekend was again Great! Appears bathrooms showers revamped and better. Had Huge campsite! Great playground and trails the kids loved.

Very nice park for camping off the beaten path. Nice, quiet stay that really got us back in touch with nature. Perfect temperatures the end of July. They have campfire rings at each site, which we used several times. We brought our travel trailer and they provided electric. We did have to use their bathhouse because they didn’t have water on site. Also no cell signal (but I took that as a positive!) Overall a nice time.

Great place to take your kids. Nice playground, hiking trails, small beach, nice boat launch. Got some great senior pictures of my son throughout the park.
