Salmon-Challis/Twin Creek

Overview

Twin Creek RV Park offers a serene escape within the vast Salmon-Challis National Forest. Located in the historic community of Gibbonsville, this park provides a tranquil home base for travelers exploring the rugged landscapes of Northern Idaho. It is characterized by its towering pines and proximity to pristine waterways, making it a favorite for those who prefer the sounds of nature over the hum of city traffic. The park provides a sense of seclusion while remaining easily accessible for those journeying through the mountains.

Location & Surroundings

Situated along the scenic Highway 93, the park serves as a vital corridor between Salmon, Idaho, and Missoula, Montana. The surrounding terrain is defined by the winding North Fork Salmon River and the steep, timbered slopes of the Bitterroot Range. This high-altitude setting ensures refreshing, cool summer nights and immediate access to thousands of acres of public land. It is an area where the mountains meet the sky, offering a dramatic backdrop for every campsite and a true feeling of being away from it all.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates various rig sizes with full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and reliable electricity. Many sites are designed as spacious pull-throughs to simplify parking for larger RVs and fifth wheels. The facility offers several core features to make your stay comfortable:

  • Full hookup connections including 30 and 50-amp power.
  • On-site laundry and private, clean shower facilities.
  • Spacious, shaded sites nestled under a canopy of mature trees.

These amenities provide essential comforts in this remote mountain location. The layout is designed to preserve the natural environment, ensuring that guests enjoy a genuine forest atmosphere during their stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities nearby, from fly fishing on the Salmon River to exploring the historical remnants of local mining ghost towns. A short drive north brings visitors to Lost Trail Powder Mountain and Chief Joseph Pass, offering year-round recreation including scenic hiking, skiing, and mountain biking trails. The area is also a haven for photographers and nature watchers, as elk, moose, and deer are frequently seen roaming the nearby meadows and riverbanks throughout the year.

It specifically appeals to retirees seeking a quiet summer retreat and families looking to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with the great outdoors. This is one of my favorite places to camp! Beautiful mountain side campground with trees taller than you can imagine! The campground hosts were so friendly and helpful and kept the spots and bathrooms spotless! We spent more than a week there and was able to ride our 4-wheelers straight from camp and to new areas every day. It’s a must see and must return campground!

Absolutely the best place to camp. The camp hosts, Karen and Lloyd are so friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen. The camp grounds and individual camp units are so clean, raked and ready for you to pull in.

Lovely quiet stop with the creek rushing in the background. We only stayed one night but found it peaceful and clean. We were tenting.

Must camp here after the white death melts! There is no phone service even with a high end booster. Which can be good. Paved and very well maintained. Pretty expensive. But you can get a large camper in to most spots.

Nice campground, isolated and quiet. Toilets are very clean and water is easily accessible. Large pine trees provide plenty of shade and fire rings are excellent.
