Santa Fe/Redondo Campground

Overview

Tucked away within the scenic expanse of the Santa Fe National Forest, Redondo Campground offers a peaceful retreat for RVers seeking a genuine connection with nature. Situated at an elevation of approximately 8,100 feet, this campground provides a cool, shaded environment perfect for escaping the summer heat. Unlike developed resorts, this location emphasizes the tranquil mountain atmosphere of northern New Mexico, serving as a primary gateway to the volcanic landscapes of the Jemez Mountains.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a short drive from the village of Jemez Springs, NM, the campground is nestled among a dense canopy of towering ponderosa pines and Douglas firs. The site is conveniently positioned along the Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway, offering stunning vistas at every turn. Travelers will appreciate the rugged beauty of the surrounding ridges and the refreshing mountain air that defines this high-altitude destination throughout the summer months.

Amenities & Park Features

Redondo Campground is designed for those who enjoy a rustic camping experience. While the park does not offer electricity, water, or sewer hookups, it provides well-maintained gravel pads and paved loops. Essential facilities include vault toilets and seasonal drinking water access points. Most sites are spacious enough to accommodate mid-sized RVs and trailers up to 30 feet, featuring fire rings and picnic tables for classic outdoor evenings under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The campground’s proximity to Valles Caldera National Preserve makes it a prime spot for wildlife viewing and exploring vast volcanic meadows. Visitors can also hike to the nearby Jemez Falls or soak in the famous natural hot springs scattered throughout the canyon. For history enthusiasts, the Jemez Historic Site offers a fascinating look into the region's ancestral Puebloan and Spanish colonial past just down the road.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prefer solitude and natural beauty over luxury amenities. It is a perfect match for outdoor enthusiasts who want easy access to hiking, fishing, and photography without the noise of a crowded commercial park. If you value starry nights and a quiet forest setting, Redondo Campground provides the ultimate basecamp for your New Mexico mountain adventure.

Campground host does nothing about noise; we had several groups making noise late into the night, and nothing was done. Bathrooms needed to be cleaned more frequently. No running water or trash cans

I stayed several nights in this campground. The forest is quite beautiful and there is a small trail that goes deeper into the forest. Some sites are quite close together, but it has many sites that have a lot of space between neighbors. Some of them are at least 200 ft apart from the closest site, which is nice if you want privacy.

This was a great camp for one night in a campervan. No phone service. Bathrooms(pit toilets) were clean and well stocked. Fire pit and picnic table at the site. It was quiet and blocked from most of the wind. Great stars at night. If you don’t book in advance it’s hard to pay since they now want you to scan a QR code to pay but with no service it doesn’t work.

This is always a quiet place for some relaxation, although weekends the campground is packed and can be very busy most campers are respectful of others. The camp-host and US forestry employees are quite friendly and fun to talk to. This has been my summer get away for several years, I take the kids up here from west Texas.

Huge campground and we were very happy we found this one. While other campground work with annoying reservation systems, this uses "first come, first served" system. We couldn't find a spot at other campgrounds, but had luck here. We stayed for 3 days and every day enjoyed another spot. The camp host was very friendly and kept the restrooms clean and made sure there was enough toilet paper. We wish the state forest service would use some money they make from this kind of paid campgrounds to make repairs, do maintenance and paint every now and then some benches.

Your read about the great hosts and wonder!?....these were great hosts!! I had site 3 and loved the privacy....it seemed to go on and on. Mike the camp host left a bunch of firewood for me which was extremely kind. The firepit was clean upon arrival and bathrooms were too. The hosts came by to offer their recommendations with sites available but were never over bearing. Little mountain store with all essentials about 3 miles up the road...except gas. Come prepared with gas. Great campground to be "in the middle" of everything....the town of Jamez isn't too far in one direction, the town of Los alamos isn't too far in another and in between all that you have national monuments, national recreation areas, and national wildlife preserves!!! Great hiking, fishing, and viewing.Absolute gem of an area!

Had a great time camping here. We had a lovely site in a meadow, and camp hosts Mike and Deb came and brought us firewood. The only bad thing was a couple a few sites down loudly screaming at each other late into the night, but since the site was mostly empty on a Sunday night, we just moved a bit away from them to get some quiet.
