Service Plaza-Vermilion Valley

Overview

The Service Plaza-Vermilion Valley offers a reliable and convenient resting point for travelers navigating the Ohio Turnpike. Located along the eastbound lanes, this facility is designed specifically to accommodate the needs of those on long-haul journeys across Northern Ohio. It provides a structured environment where travelers can recharge both their vehicles and themselves before continuing their trip. As part of a series of modern turnpike upgrades, this location focuses on practicality and security for the RV community.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Amherst, OH, at Milepost 139.5, the plaza is tucked into a region known for its proximity to the shores of Lake Erie. While the immediate environment is defined by the logistics of the highway, the surrounding area features rolling hills and historical local quarries. Travelers enjoy the convenience of being directly on the main thoroughfare, eliminating the need to navigate tight secondary roads or search for remote campgrounds after a long day of driving through the Great Lakes region.

Amenities & Park Features

The designated RV parking area is equipped with 20/30/50 amp electrical hookups, allowing travelers to maintain climate control and power appliances overnight. On-site facilities include a professional-grade dump station and potable water fill-up. Inside the main plaza building, visitors have access to the following features:

  • Clean private showers and restrooms
  • Coin-operated laundry machines
  • 24-hour convenience store and food court
  • Pet exercise areas for furry travelers

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While primarily a stopover, the plaza serves as a gateway to the Lake Erie Islands and the historic downtown of Amherst. Just a short drive away, travelers can explore the Lorain Lighthouse or take a break at one of the many lakeside parks. For those with extra time, the world-famous Cedar Point amusement park is located less than an hour to the west, making this an ideal final stop before a day of thrills at the park.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is ideal for cross-country travelers and big-rig owners who value efficiency and ease of access over resort-style activities. It is perfectly suited for families or solo drivers needing a secure overnight stay without the hassle of a complex check-in process. If your priority is a well-maintained site with essential utilities and 24-hour access to food and fuel, this service plaza fits your travel style perfectly.

No customer service at the Burger King when ordering and the machines don't tell you that product comes with mayo automatically. I wish customer service hasn't gone out of businesses. The younh man actually asked me if I could just scrape it off. Im allergic. My husband paid with a card and I couldn't get my money back thats almost $8.00 in the garbage. Being that I have mobility issues, I couldn't make the trip back and forth again. I guess I will eat dinner when I get back to new york. They actually wait on customers.

“Convenient stop for late-night travelers” This service plaza is a lifesaver when you’re on the road. It’s open late and has several fast food options, plus clean bathrooms that make the stop even more comfortable. Easy to access and perfect for hungry travelers passing through.

The Vermilion Valley Service Plaza is clean and well maintained. There are restaurants and a convenient store. There are easy access gas and diesel pumps. It is a safe place to walk around after driving for a long time and it is located in a beautiful area.

I would like to lead with, I almost never leave a negative review, I would usually say nothing instead of something bad, but that's how negative this experience was. There were positives and negatives about visiting here, as most experiences. I would all in all have considered this a positive experience until we stopped to get fuel. We drive a large, diesel, bus. There were 3 lanes that weren't blocked off, one all the way on the left without a pump at all, and all are one way lanes. NONE of the pumps had diesel on the right-hand side. So we pull up in the left lane, and use the diesel from the pump on the other side since the person there was using a whole different pump just for gasoline. The gas attendant comes storming out yelling at us that we can't do that, and when we ask what he means, he gets an even worse attitude and told us we should be using the gas lanes (a whole different area), we tried to explain we need diesel, to which he seemed slightly surprised and then told us to back into a closed off lane (the only one with a pump on the right). Listen, I've been in customer service for 15 years. I have to patiently and kindly listen and help unhappy people on the regular. Working with people sucks sometimes, I really do get that. There's no excuse for the unprovoked yelling and rudeness. Management, please train your staff on effective communication. I don't need friendliness, I'm not even asking for kindness. Just communicate what is being done wrong (using the pump from the wrong side), and what you would like done instead (to open a closed lane, and for us to pull into that). Side note, if you're just looking for someone to fight with, please just wait until someone picks that fight with you that you're looking for.

Vermilion Valley Service plaza has busy, bustling atmosphere, like a small airport terminal. It has clean bathrooms, plenty of space and there are some fast food, coffee, and snack options. Toll road money been put into good use i see!

Similar to other rest stops on the Turnpike, but this one was not quite as sparkling clean as the other ones. There are several fast food restaurants and shops and plenty of bathrooms. There is also are area to get brochures about sights and tourist attractions.

■Good & beautiful place! ■Trucker Shower (No towels), Diesel. Laundry & two Lounge ■Bathroom no clean today! ■Area for Pets 🤔ATTENTION MANAGERS🤔 ■Cleaning Staff very rough😝 ■Service Staff in Food Court very serious & Very, very low services !!! 🥛🍩🍽🍔🍟😦😧 ■In the left Burger King area, there is the soda machine and two machine materials went out (where the soda bounces) and the cleaning lady tried to put them with her hands, she had just cleaned the food court tables, that is unhygienic !!! A gentleman told her and she complained and she said "I do not understand English" and the gentleman knows what he told the Burger King employee to wash it and put it properly sanitized ... for details so the people we visit and trust in eating there sometimes we face and take viruses, by people as irresponsible ...🤔😷🤒🤕🤧🤢
