Shakamak

Overview

Shakamak State Park offers a serene escape in southwestern Indiana, centered around three picturesque man-made lakes. Known for its quiet atmosphere and lush woodlands, this park provides a classic Midwestern camping experience for travelers of all ages. RVers often visit for the tranquil water views and the opportunity to disconnect in a well-maintained natural setting that feels worlds away from the city. The park spans over 1,700 acres, offering a generous buffer of nature for every guest.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside Jasonville, IN, the park spans across portions of Greene, Sullivan, and Clay counties. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and dense forests that frame Lake Shakamak, Lake Lenape, and Lake Kickapoo. This unique geographical positioning creates a dense canopy of trees that provides excellent shade for campsites. The surrounding area is primarily rural, ensuring that the starry night skies are not obscured by city lights, making it a peaceful retreat for dedicated nature lovers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a large campground with over 100 electric-only Class A sites, providing a comfortable base for RV travelers throughout the season. Amenities include:

  • Modern restrooms and hot shower facilities
  • A convenient sanitary dump station
  • Seasonal boat rentals for rowboats and paddleboats
  • A large aquatic center with a water slide

These features ensure that while the park feels rustic, it still offers the essential comforts needed for a multi-day stay in a recreational vehicle.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the premier activity here, with the lakes famous for producing largemouth bass and bluegill in abundance. Hikers can explore over 12 miles of trails that wind through the forests and along the shoreline, offering varying difficulty levels. For a change of pace, the nearby town of Jasonville offers small-town charm and essential supplies. The park also features shoreside log cabins and a nature center that hosts seasonal educational programs for visitors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for family-oriented RVers who enjoy traditional outdoor activities like fishing, swimming, and hiking in a safe environment. It is particularly well-suited for those seeking a quiet, low-tech environment where the focus is on the natural surroundings rather than high-speed connectivity. My experience in this school, my son in grade 3, who had an excellent teacher, very qualified, in terms of the staff who work there, some of them very disorganized and irresponsible, a resource officer who does his job well, including being well informed

If I could give a negative review I would. There was a sham election for student office. One person ran.

I am disappointed in this school. If you have a child with major mental problem this is not the school for you. They are bias toward my kid and he hates it I am pondering the idea of putting him in another school his behavior has worsened in the school. At home he's fine. They call CPS on you too which I love. Because I'm not scared of CPSI have worked with them so I know my rights. I also know that I can call on the school too. Especially when my 10 year old comes home throwing up and said the food tasted bad and the milk was spoiled.
