South Cove

Overview

South Cove County Park is a scenic 48-acre peninsula situated on the southern shores of Lake Keowee in South Carolina. As part of the Oconee County park system, it serves as a premier destination for travelers looking for a mix of mountain air and lakeside recreation. Known for its well-maintained facilities and accessible shoreline, the park offers a peaceful escape within the Upstate region, providing a perfect home base for exploring local natural wonders.

Location & Surroundings

Located just a few miles from downtown Seneca, the park feels secluded despite its proximity to urban conveniences. It is nestled deep in the Blue Ridge foothills, offering a landscape defined by rolling hills and deep blue waters. The park is almost entirely surrounded by the clear waters of Lake Keowee, and the lush hardwood canopy provides ample shade and privacy, making it a refreshing retreat during the warm South Carolina summers.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 86 campsites, many of which offer water and electrical hookups suitable for various RV sizes. Guests have access to clean bathhouses, a dump station, and reliable on-site facilities. For recreation, the park includes two boat ramps, a designated swimming area, and multiple fishing piers. Land-based activities are well-supported with tennis courts, pickleball courts, and several playgrounds, ensuring that there is always something to do between lake excursions.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water sports are the primary draw here, with endless opportunities for boating, kayaking, and world-class bass fishing. Beyond the park gates, visitors are a short drive from Clemson University, making it a popular spot for alumni and sports fans. Nature lovers can easily explore the nearby Stumphouse Tunnel and Issaqueena Falls. The area is also famous for its high density of waterfalls and scenic hiking trails that wind through the Sumter National Forest.

Who This Park Is Best For

South Cove is ideal for families and water enthusiasts who prioritize easy lake access and diverse recreational facilities. Its proximity to Clemson makes it a strategic choice for sports fans traveling in motorhomes during the fall season. It appeals to those who enjoy a community-oriented atmosphere rather than a remote wilderness experience. If you are looking for a well-managed public park with modern conveniences and stunning sunset views, this is an excellent choice.

This campground is so nice. We have a beautiful spot having the lake with 30amp and water, a firepit and picnic table. The sites are clean and staggered so everyone has a view of the lake. We'd love to stay here longer.

Campground has a lot going for it. Tent sites are a bit on the smaller side, but site 53 was on the end and felt like it had a little more room to breath. Not all tent sites had a pad so ask before you book. Restrooms were always clean and stocked. Halloween weekend the campground was about half full. Wished we had been able to stay longer. Great sunrise and sunsets.

South Cove is not known as a photography location, but the sessions I have here always turn out stunning! I love the lake backdrop and sometimes even a fun time in the water.

Incredible county park to tent camp and hangout in the water. Staff was friendly and we were plenty far away from the neighboring campers. Bathhouses were very clean and the entire campground was well kept.

Nice spot to spend warm days with loved ones. Careful of goose poop in the grass tho!!! "Sand," or grass to lay in. Public restrooms, picnic tables and charcoal grills, hiking trails, boat launch, tennis courts, and even kayak rentals. Water can feel like a lukewarm bath during summer, but it is still refreshing and only 5 or so minutes off of hwy 123.
